#43 Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti - WALLA MACCA TIPPA - till 2022

Idea: Specialist small forwards. Stop trying to make everyone into a midfielder.

Anthony McDonald Tipungwuti can achieve anything

Excitement machine. My Richmond supporting mate said he'll probably get more enjoyment this year watching Tippa than he will from the Tigers.
Well, who wouldn't rather watch an excitement machine as compared to Richmond's excrement machine?
Idea: Specialist small forwards. Stop trying to make everyone into a midfielder.

Exactly. I don’t see Adelaide trying to play Eddie Betts as a mid and If either Tippa or Fanta can be as good as Eddie (big ask) we are styling.

I have bookmarked this . When Tippa wins the Crichton as a mid and kicks 30 goals , I want you to eat your post Riolio

First time I heard this from any of the coaches; Bluey wants to move Tippa into the midfield. Yeh ! Give it a go. The guy is already magic and he is getting better, looking at some of the pre-season video

Its a no brainer . Rather than being stuck in the forward line, it allows him to take the ball off half back and run with it, he would rarely be exposed by tall opposition players close to the opponents goal. Can drift forward and kick goals, can run to the edge of the centre square and hit up forwards lace out until the early morn.

How good would that be if it works out ?

Only problem I have with this is that it would give us a next gen midfield of Parish, Zach, Walla, McGrath and The Langford. All bar one are dwarves in AFL terms. And if the new type mid is the Bont/Cripps type, then the seven dwarves model is probably not the best option.

This is true. I know its been over 90 years since a mosquito fleet carried a team to back to back premierships, so that time has probably passed.
We just have to hope one of Mutch/Begley ( 187-188 medium size) and belatedly maybe Lav (191) can develop, or we might just become a “go to” club again in the trade period. ( Fyfe?)

Hepp, Langford, Laverde and whoever of the new kids with size would be ample big bodies.

I just had an idea. Why don’t we sign Eddie Betts and turn him into a midfielder!

Why a big ask. These guys are just starting their careers and doing better than when Eddie started his career. Have faith they can be better.

I don’t think he needs to be a midfielder as such, but I do want him to be the bloke with the ball in his hand delivering inside 50.

Carlton had a mosquito fleet in the 70’s and 80’s.

Which clubs did they buy them from?

I don’t think this is a problem. All of those players could end up AAA and if they’re that good their size won’t be a problem. Having 4 Z Merretts in your midfield doesn’t present you with a height problem because they’d all be good enough to overcome their size mismatch with speed and skills.

Plus as previously stated we have Heppell Langford and Laverde (who I rate as a bona fide mid) in there, plus talk of Francis and Ridley (long term there I know) moving into the midfield.

Why is he a specialist small fwd all of a sudden? He played 3 years in the VFL and 3/4 of his first year as a HBF and his run and carry, agility, hard tackling and super duper elite silky disposal was apparent for all to see. To me that screams “get it to him 28 times a game in the midfield - we need more of that.”

It’s always been his tank holding him back (from drafting as well as a midfield role). If he can get that up to scratch it’s a no brainer IMO. And it looks like he’s working on it (see karma bomber’s comparison pic in the training thread).

TIPPA is that good he can play all of the positions.

Who would be snow white then?

McKenna. White as snow.

We’d start him on a HBF & work him into there …
