All I hear on the highlight video is Day/Weeks, so he will now by known as The Month/Monthy.

It really isnt though. He had a poor season.

I mentioned pre-draft that I’d be keen to have a look at him as a rookie and see if he could realise some of the potential he showed as a bottom ager. Happy we picked him, but lets keep a lid on things here.

let us, “the uneducated” get excited and make outlandish claims. We have nothing else supporting this club.

My unrealistic expectations won’t hurt this kid’s career one bit.

Glandular and injury. You don’t get over glandular in one swoop, hard enough to get out of bed even as the effects are diminishing, let alone ooze your way into high level training and performance. Lid ajar.

Was Hooker the last “glandular influenced slider” we picked up?

If so he had it for the first five years

Easily the worse background song in the history of human evolution in that video.

He played one awesome game in the champs and was reasonable in others.

I didn’t think his coates league was that far off. He was especially potent against very strong teams in Sandy and the Rebels, and stood up when our own Zak Johnson’s knights touched up Bendigo. (Something we’ve lacked is players who stand up when things aren’t going our way)

Factor in he was coming off 5 weeks out with a quad after week 1 of coates league, and I don’t think it was all that bad.
I’d say he had a better year than Unwin myself.

I’m curtailing my expectations to some like Zurharr, will have a crack. but no Dusty Martin.
Zurharr was a rookie. fwd/mid

Dusty was a top 3 talent, arguably could have went at 1 in his draft year if he was a Melbourne School boy…
Scully was the ultimate pro

but Martin was like Harley Reid in the under 18’s too powerful.
Sliding doors moment if Dees got Dusty instead of Trengove,

norm smith / brownlow double

Went down to training on Saturday morning and caught most of the match sim. This kid only played a half (along with the other new draftees) and he did some really nice things.

Has a body solid enough to handle the contest and didn’t hold back on the 50/50 balls. Also has really nice zip and clean hands.

Deferred to hand balling to senior players when perhaps should have looked to use his leg a couple of times, but that’s not uncommon for a young player in the opening thrusts of a professional career. Also got quite a bit of ball up around the wing / half back, so I wasn’t totally sure whether he was getting up high or perhaps playing a different role to his usual half forward.

There was one contest that really stood out where he cut across a ground pack situation, barging through contact and taking the ball with him. Barely got slowed up by the contact and maintained enough composure to take the next two steps before finding a neat forward handball through traffic that set a team mate into space. Was all power, aggression and a touch of class as well.

He certainly looks as though he’s willing to put in to become a player and has a physicality that AFL players need.
