Ex-#44 Shaun McKernan

So much upside here. Can’t wait for a healthy joeD or hooker starting fwd with him so he gets the 2nd tall and doesn’t get double-teamed
Adds more than most talls when the ball is on the ground/ in congestion
V important player

It’s a Smack trademark. Extend gigantic neck, vertical clunk, wheel round on the arc, role in like a high speed Prime-mover and launch a post-high laser beam through the sticks.

Was beastly today, great game.

I want a highlights reel of just his goal celebrations

Was very good yesterday but far out he gives away so so may free kicks and 50m penalties.

No football IQ.

Coach killer.

Gold Coast specialist. Many of his best games have been up there.

Loves that mark and wheel on the flank doesn’t he?

He does, but I do feel that everytime he gives away a free kick, Blitz credits him with giving away 5.

He is ranked 14th in the league for Frees Against per game, which isn’t great. But Zac Clarke is ranked 4th, Joey D is ranked 9th and TBell is 22nd, so all our big guys in general have some issues.

For context, it’s mostly all ruckman or big forwards on the list, even Brodie Grundy is 10th, and Mumford simply owns the category.

He’s such a unique player. Yin and Yang of this lad is extreme.

6 contested marks is a huge haul.

His clunking hands have come a long way since he arrived at the club.

2nd in the league for contested marks per game.

(1st is Blitz favourite Matt Taberner)

I actually thought he might have snuck into number 1 spot after that effort.

You mean his “strangler’s hands” as Dwayne called them last night?

Smack always plays on when he takes a mark in the corridor. I like how he backs himself to find a target on the move and doesn’t give the opposition time to set up. Joey does this too. It’s probably what he would like his team mates to do when he’s parked near the goal square.

Interesting comment re “injury opening up opportunity for Smack”.

Sounds like bullshit but looking into it:

Smack and Joe haven’t played together since THAT Friday night loss to Sydney in 2017.

There have only been 2 times where Joe, Smack and Bellchambers played in the same team. That Sydney game mentioned above where Smack came in for 1 week for an injured Hooker.

The one other time was Smack’s very first game for us vs North in 2015 where he came in for an injured Carlisle before being dropped the next week once Carlisle came back.

He helped win me a thousand bucks, so he just gets a pass for this week.

Yep, even in 2016, I reckon McKernan lined up with Joe round 1, and then we didn’t see him again until late in the year, and that was mostly as a ruck.

I do hope we get to see Joe / Smack as a combo at some point, because I reckon they’d compliment each other nicely.
