in that case it should only be the 1 week suspension MAX in line with the others.

What exactly is a “light” breach? He either breached the rules or he didn’t.

As if the AFL could have a definitive rule.

Grey areas all the way.

I heard he snuck out Friday night and broke wee little Silvagni’s ribs.

Merrett to get off.

Agree but Daniel Cherny noting breach will be classed as minor. Unsure what all that means sorry

It means he’ll get a week suspension that will be served concurrently with DHHS isolation. Convenient…

The optics are better when you announce it more than a week before his release…

Conor McKenna has been cleared to play for Essendon this week after he was freed from quarantine by the Victorian government.

The AFL investigation into his alleged COVID protocol breaches resulted in a one-match ban, served when he missed the game against Carlton on the weekend.

The Irishman has tested negative multiple times since his positive test, with teammate James Stewart also forced into isolation as a close contact.

McKenna. who returned from his home country during the AFL’s shutdown period, attended a number of house inspections and visited his former host family in recent weeks.

The AFL is set to confirm McKenna did breach restrictions in place to protect the game but is now free to play.

The Victorian health department gave him the green light to leave quarantine on Monday.

“There’s wild theories and everything that are going around,” McLachlan told 3AW last week.

“I think it’s accepted that he went to some public real estate openings and to his host family.

“Both of those breaches are marginal. The theory that his behaviour was risky … none of that is proven to be true.”

McLachlan said McKenna’s infection may remain a mystery forever.

His two positive tests returned low-level readings, suggesting the Bombers player may have caught COVID-19 “some time ago”.

“We will do further blood testing and blood work but he was definitely positive,” McLachlan said.

“Whether it was from an illness in Ireland or other, that is for the medical people to continue to work through.

“And maybe we won’t have certainty on it.”

A light breach means the media are able to say "We were right. He did break a rule - sort of " and won’t have to apologize to him.

Needs to play forward/mid this weekend.

I suppose this means Stewart is now also available.

No.

Because the rules for quarantine for a close contact are and have always been different to a confirmed case, which Conor has been treated as. Stewart will serve the balance of his 14 days.

Fark they’re gutless. Sending their toadies out to announce it.

And the toadie didn’t even write a new article, just edited an old one.
