I’m seriously on the fence, I don’t know what to make of him. Sometime he looks great and others it’s pretty bad. I think a lot of it comes down to what happens with our ruckman.
I still think Bryan is waiting to see what Draper does before he commits. If Draper does I can see him off to another club. If we keep both Bryan’s and Draper, Blackiston is a good break glass backup. If we loose one I think I’d rather a season AFL backup.
Lots of things to happen before I would be committing to him in any way.
When I’m talking fundamentals that u12s know and understand. Fundamentals that apply to all teams, and players across the ground. So yep, your point is moot.
Yeah he would probably struggle to get a game if heaven forbid we have a full squad to choose from. But having a tall, athletic player who can play ruck and also key back at a pinch isn’t the worst thing to have on the list as an insurance policy. He does have scope for improvement down back IMO.
Can’t believe some people are questioning whether a guy that’s never been in a profession program (yeah yeah I get that’s questionable at Essington) has any scope for improvement.
You could literally throw anyone on this board onto an AFL list and their football would improve immensely.
The only questions over Blakiston are (1) what the scope of that improvement is and (2) whether his age profile fits in with where we are as a club/list atm.
(1) Is unknown and comes down to our development team (RIP)
(2) I refer you to Lachlan Keeffe
