Just got my ticket to be a 4x4 Instructor for work.
Looking forward to using some of the knowledge during my own off road sessions.

Recently watched a guy on Moreton island dig himself into the sand. Had clearly lost all traction, kept digging, and digging, until he bottomed out. Got out, spat it, started hitting his car. Someone came along (friend, I think) and proceeded to dig the sand out while fat old mate stood there huffing and cursing. Finally his mate pulled him out with a strap, before the tide came in. Quite entertaining. A new 4x4 with all the bells and whistles doesn’t compensate for lack of experience and knowledge!

Mrs Mex and I have decided we want to do a road trip up the Cape before our lads get too old and don’t want to know us. I figure we’ve got 2 or 3 years with our eldest.
I’m hoping I can get a 5 or 6 week stint working on Thursday Island as holiday relief before we make the trip so I can do some reckon and make some good contacts.
Anyone done this trip before? Any good tips?

Was working in Lockhart River a few weeks ago. Nice camp ground at Chilli Beach just north of there, though I didn’t get to stay there.
