#5 Elijah Tsatas (Part 2)

He’s equal 13th in the VFL for score involvements per game so he’s not that low impact

Hobbs to take Caldwell’s spot in the middle and Menzie to come back into the forward line…you know it makes sense

Imagine the lols if Tsatas finally came in and tore a hammy…

No, not really, more so typical.

Don’t get me wrong, I would rather Tsatas be given 4-6 weeks playing in the AFL in his normal role to see what he looks like. It’s damming that Scott hasn’t done this in nearly 3 seasons.

Perhaps with Parish and Caldwell now out, it’s time to play him - no excuses for Scott.

And then we can really see what Elijah is made of at AFL level.

No, it’s not typical, the averages show what’s typical.

Or Hobbs to centre, Oscar Smartt debut…just to troll Tsatas.

Or, to be delightfully pedantic, averages show what’s mean or median; typical shows distinct qualities to the extent of being effectively symbolic.

That would genuinely be the most Brad scott thing ever.

caldwell has only averaged 4.5 score involvements since his return from injury. I’d be surprised if tsatas did worse than that if played in the same role for the same amount of time.

Caldwell has also averaged 6 tackles in that time. i’d have serious doubts tsatas could do that.

hopefully tsatas gets a good opportunity over the next 6 weeks to show the football world what he can do. but he’s going to need to play with a lot more desperation without the ball than he displays at VFL level. he’s very reluctant to leave his feet and drive his shoulder into an opponent, his tackling technique is very poor. it’s 100% a desire / mindset thing too and it should be an easy fix if he wants senior footy enough…

regardless I’m hoping we get a good look at a durham/tsatas/martin midfield this week with support from setterfield/hobbs/merrett

i think it’s more likely that they set up with setterfield on hopper, durham on taranto and merret in the middle and the cameos will be from hobbs tsatas and martin.

i’ll be filthy if they don’t select tsatas and give perkins high midfield rotations instead.

I don’t think I have ever seen a kid who has played 15 games( 5 as sub) held to such high standards before

He doesn’t defend well enough

He isn’t a great kick

He doesn’t get involved in scores enough

He is just a kid!!! Back him in and give him an extended shot at it, and he may very well end up doing all those things in the future

Why not try it. Nobody can look at our midfield and say- yep that area of the ground is working great right now so don’t mess with it

Specious reasoning. Tsatas gets a heap of the pill and that’s now used against him?

The scoreboard is measured in absolutes, not “scores per possession”

Why tf would we spend blue chip capital on a mid if we apparently can’t fit him in even when Parish, our MMTEM is also out

You can add - “doesn’t tackle well / doesn’t drive his shoulder in” to the list. That was suggested recently :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

This is one of the only criticisms of Tsatas I agree with without reservation. He does play like a bit of a rockstar.

That said he hasn’t had the time to show that he may be worthy of that title in his output when we have the ball. I’d argue Parish is not much better than that himself outside 2021 when he was on another level.

Can see Brad lapping up all the praise when he gets 30 + on Saturday night and noting how beneficial all that VFL football has been for Tsatas.

Wasn’t Shiel next in line?

Shiels cooked, I think it’s clear that he’s out of favour.

But Tsatas was emrg for the Gold Coast game so it stands to reason he’s the next in line. Wouldn’t be crazy shocked if we did something like send Hobbs into more midfield time and bringing in Guelf or something

Just play him FFS Brad, that way I don’t have to read the same ■■■■ every time I come onto Blitz.

Iunno. I’m not in the same boat as some that think he’s a bust. From what I’ve heard, Tsatas can be a little bit of a Pratt but he tries hard on the track. I think he’ll make it and become a very solid mid if he keeps at it. But I do think he has a bit to work on and am a bit confused by why we think Tsatas is the special case that gets parachuted into the side just because some people are anxious he’d leave if we didn’t.

Jobe Watson, who had similar issues but not as bad as Tsatas, played a majority VFL for 3 years before he got a full seasons go at it. What makes Tsatas the special case here?

Jobe wasn’t getting 30+ touches every time he played VFL
