Grimley has a few tools… I’m not as pessimistic about him as others. But he wasn’t great.

Not a good enough contested mark atm for the style of player he is. Needs to pluck them when on an undersized opponent.
For our needs i’d have him doing contested marking and body work drills every day.

I think we are beginning to see the reasons why clubs have not taken a punt on him.

Kick the ball to his advantage when 1 on 1, and he does look dangerous.
Late in the game, it looked like something would happen if we got the ball down there.
Would have had a 2nd goal if not for the Brown free.
The other areas of his game are terrible though.
It’s clear he’s not able to offer anything defensively, and he looks so uncoordinated.
We can’t carry both him and JD in our forwardline at once.
Brown is still giving us something slightly different, and has the flexibility to play tall back, so he should play in front of Grimley.

I thought of the three tall forwards, he looked the most able to actually play FF. Seemed to run and lead to better places. I’d persist, but not bother with him in the ruck.
Ambrose is more competitive in the ruck that what Grimley was today. Bring in a listed player instead of wasting a game on a top up who has been as effective as a witches hat so far.

It’s selections like grimly that make me wonder why we didn’t pick up someone like Keiran Harper.
Delisted and obviously not very good but so was grimly and and least Harper is 23ish and quick if nothing else.
We should be playing McKernan or Ambrose instead.
Disappointing game. He looked great through the preseason but doesn’t seem to lift when the real pressure is on.

Some players never play well in the twos. He should have been on the park for this game. Would have at least shaken up the fc backline.
When we brought him in i asked my hawks mates what is he like and they said ‘don;t rate him, has no forward pressure’ and that’s my main gripe with him. Mckernan is the same, once the ball hits the deck they are near on useless in stopping to get it out. The only thing it has done has freed up the pencil thin brown to be a little more effective, again though, he lacks forward pressure too that;s why the ball comes out quicker than it goes in.
