#6 Joe Daniher - almost had a full pre-season

#9036

Its probably more a case of reduced running rather than reduced minutes.

Brown will do the bulk of the running that we usually have Joe doing, and Joe will sit deep more.

#9037

Of course… If he was fit he wouldn’t be on managed minutes. He did 73% in JLT 2 some i’m guessing it’ll be over that.

By the way i’m not saying it’s a good idea to throw him out there for 50% of a game. I was just saying modified game time can still be over 80%.

#9038

It certainly would be for a key position players. Look at the top 50 players for TOG% last year. With a few exceptions, all key position players. It would impact our midfield rotations pretty significantly, I imagine.

#9039

Yep. I just said above in 2017 he played over 92%.

#9040

I’m not sure what modified minutes means, but the reality is if Fanta gets going the other 5 forwards can all go sit down and enjoy the magic dance freak show.

#9041

He will play. They will let him off the chain and if he breaks down then so be it.

Sure, he will be rusty, and demonstrate that ever unreliable set shot kicking we’ve grown accustomed to.

The trick here is to put him in cotton wool again if he pulls up sore. But until then, we will be all in on the Joe train.

#9042

I would be happier to see Joe get his fitness back at vfl an actually dominate a game or two. Rip down 10 marks an kick 5 goals + an not 1 goal 6 plus two out of bounds on the full. From what I saw of JLT he would be like playing a man down. He offered bugger all. Playing him in ruck won’t work either if he just come off the type of injury he had. That will destroy him sooner. Why be obsessed bringing him in for round 1 so ■■■■■■ important to the club? The team showed last year we can win when joe isn’t playing. Just my thoughts. Not many will probably agree

#9043

Joe is a lot heavier and stronger than last year. I would like to see him use his strength and stand his ground when going for marks rather than continually going for hangers. Also give up staging for frees.

#9044

This frustrates me more than anything. I really hope he stops it.

#9045

My prediction, he just won’t be running up the wings as much to collect possessions. Deep forward. Run 8-10km per game instead of the 15km some get up to. Stays the deepest forward until his fitness lets him work over defenders.

#9046

i reckon he was at his best when he was predominantly forward but had stints in the ruck. it gave him a chance to be free of 1-3 opponents hanging off him for a while and get some quality possession. kicked some primo goals from 50+ out from there too.

#9047

I have atm

#9048

Thing is he probably can’t do the kms that getting outside the f50 require. Leave him deep. If he has 3 hanging off him, the other forwards need to take advantage. Our mids need to look for the best option, not just the joe option.

#9049

What makes you think anyone is obsessed with it?

#9050

The gap between our first AFL game and first VFL (Apr7), means he probably needs to be managed in AFL.

#9051

Or the McDonald-Tipungwuti as a key forward option. Previously known as the Josh Green as a key forward option

Also i think they should be able to get him in the ruck again after hes settled in the team again

#9052

We have VFL practice matches on the 23rd and 30th.

(From a distance, I have no opinion on where he should play.)

#9053

if Joe plays reserves and takes 10 marks and kicks 6 goals, I’ll be pretty annoyed as to why he’s not in the ones.

edit. Joe ain’t playin resies

#9054

Play him in the AFL. The sooner the whole team clicks the better. If he’s not up to it he’ll be exposed pretty quickly. They can switch to the Brown Smack combo if that’s the case. Just my opinion.

#9055

Players often play reduced minutes for a week or two when coming back from injury. It’s not a huge deal unless you have multiple players in the same situation, or if they’re hampered in the minutes they do play.

As it is he has several weeks to continue to up his workload, so he’s not stuck in the same place as his last JLT game
