I am comfortable with Diggers being a 2 timer. Each human body contains over 300 trillion viruses, but that doesn’t seem to effect our ability to take over the planet.
Your assumption of the players care as much as the supporters though is wrong. There are supporters who have supported the club all their lives, smother their house in essendon memorabilia, get tattoos, plan their life around the club, have been members for 50 years, there are thousands of absolute diehard supporters who literally breathe red and black. Supporters are SO emotionally invested. I know i am
I somehow dont think being sh*t since 2004 burns blokes as much who have supported another team growing up, and been at the club a few years more than the above said supporters.
I dont doubt it kills some players too, but not all of them. We still havent seen that buy in attitude from the playing group. They do not have a win at all costs mentality. Once we get that, we’ll be good. This goes for administration and coaching staff too.
People perform better when they have an appropriate work-leisure balance and are able to perform their craft whilst focused, but relaxed. All of this emotional rollercoasting and dummy-spitting that we engage in as supporters offers nothing of benefit to the players. Identifying that we are more farked up than them, whilst true, doesn’t mean we want them to follow us into the emotional bog.
