#6 Joe Daniher - drank a beer

Happy to get the game out of the way. We’ll see a dramatic improvement from him against the Cats.

Agree. JD could not get any worse than yesterday's game. Will be better for the run.

Jack Dyer used to say, " He went where the ball AINT."

If you're a midfielder, you can ease back into a pre season. Have a run of half back, gradually move into the ball and rarely would you worry about a tag.

As a number 1 key forward, you are copping the opposition’s best key defender no matter what, so there is no easing back into it.

Add to that May is one of the more rugged key defenders in the comp, not afraid to try and hurt his opponent in contests.

He does remind me of someone…

AFL players think they know more than the lid-onners here: Joe has been voted the most likely to breakout to Elite status this year. Identified as such by 14% of players surveyed.

Paddy McCartin was second on 10%.

On the other hand, the Schmook of an author wrote that ‘there is also an expectation that a pre-season spent refining his goalkicking technique could see a sharp rise in Daniher’s accuracy’.

100% accuracy yesterday!
Surely if we dont see an improvement in the next JLT, he should be sent to the magoos come rd 1.

Fridge looked very good. Stewart got his hands on more of the pill so at least he provided more of a target and we have Hooker to slot in yet.

We have a serious problem with contested marking.

One has to worry when we play a game and register 1 ( one) contested mark. It wasnt Joe, however with Joe and Hooksy firing the average should go up to around 5 contested marks . But thats still way below the AFL average of 11.5 per game ( Geelongs average is 14 ). Who else will contribute to get up to the average or better ?
Here are the most likely. Our best contested marking players other than the above: Aaron Francis, Matty Dea, Shaun Mackernan, Tom Bellchambers and most think these players are not best 22 at this point.

I noticed last year a serious problem with the opposition taking contested marks on kickouts. This is an area Leuei is not strong in ( running at 1 for every 5 of Joeys contested marks.) If we are going to bomb it long to the wing at kickouts , we will need Joey or Hooksey out there to compete, or the ball will come straight back in more than 50% of the time.

Uh-huh.

My point was he’s done fark-all kicking this pre-season!

Agreed. Should have been “hope” rather than “expectation”.

History will tell us if the hope is:
misplaced,
forlorn; or
satisfied.

This should be a poll.

Fitness dosn’t seem to be an issue now. He’s got 25 days to get touch back. Surely that’s plenty of time assuming that he’s now into full training

Still got his hands to the ball in more marking contests than any of our other forwards…

Dropped them all, but got his hands to them.

He only played 1 quarter in the intraclub before that game IIRC

Timing with leads. Fitness to get to contests. Confidence in knee. All would be factors.

He was as ordinary as one could be. Month out until season starts however so should build up fine.

Thought Joe had an almost game. Marks weren't quite sticking etc. but actually wasn't bad for a rusty first hit out.

It was bad, but that’s what practice matches are for.

Move over Einstein, move over Hubble and Hawking, Joey has discovered anti gravity !

Nonsense on stilts?

Haters will say it's photoshopped
That's not photoshopped. This is photoshopped!

If we relocate to Sri Lanka we could make a lot of money out of this.

He’s ‘Avocado Wolfing.’

Have always found that key position players usually take 2 or 3 practice games to get their touch - Joe’s timing was a bit off yesterday.
