Buttifant and Malthouse formed a company called Keen Edge in 2016, after getting the flick from Carlton, with the vision of creating specific programs that can enable people and organisations to achieve success. The banned Essendon players wanted Buttifant but would not have a bar of Malthouse regardless of his asking price. Keen Edge broke down and they now work independently. Buttifant can no longer get work in the AFL. Mark Evans, then at the AFL, and now at Gold Coast told him working with the banned players was not a good career move.

This being the same players that the AFL Anti-Doping Tribunal had found not guilty of using a banned supplement during the 2012 football season.
