#6 Jye Caldwell - thru 2028

As a side note, it seems that Caldwell has well and truly got over his hammy issues.

2 years ago that sounded like a fantasy.

Something our high performance has done well.

Although I donā€™t disagree with the sentiment - heā€™s actually 2 or 3 years away from his prime.

Maybe for a KPP or Ruckman. Not for a midfielder.

23-28 are the Prime years for a midfielder.

If you look at the drafts he was in and the one after him he is well behind most of the other midfielders and most of those guys are in better sides so I donā€™t think the whole being held out by parish and Merrett is really a arguement

How about the excuse that heā€™s a midfielder who spends half the game in the forward pocket?

Itā€™s the exact same situation as parish.

Who said heā€™s still young?

Thereā€™s more then two midfield spots and if he was a jet he would be playing there more

Itā€™s time for the players to take responsibility for their own performances.

LOL, Parish and Langford say hi. Played in their natural position they became A graders.

Well in that case, as you have cleverly pointed out - he is both ā€˜in his primeā€™, and, ā€˜2 or 3 years away from itā€™ā€¦

Is this guy a mid, or a forward?

I have no idea

Played ok I thought, though.

Mid/forward

Im a bit concerned with him tbh. Have thought his two games have been average. But weā€™ve got no better options.

I can easily see shiel replacing him though on output. And we should be moving on from shiel

He needs to find another gear imo

The problem for Caldwell is his best position is owned by parish and Merrett. His game style probably sits somewhere between them too.

He played forward for the first 3 qtrs of the game, then as soon as he was put in the middle started jogging around and his opponent destroyed him.
My friend and I watching the game made note of it on several occasions how slow he was jogging defensively and it killed us.
Hobbs comes in for him imo.

He is a midfielder that is being played forward as heā€™s about our 7th best mid.

Heā€™s not a forward but where else can you play him other than the 2s

Iā€™d play Merrett wing to free up an on ball spot.

Merrett played wing for most of 2020 and was damn good coz he finds space so easily and can assist coming out of defence.

I dont think zach is an amazing centre bounce mid and it would free up some midfield minutes for hobbs and Caldwell.

Playing half forward is a very taxing role, a lot of chasing. So when he went inside in the last he was probably cooked, compared to the cats mids who were rotating off the bench much more than us.

I think they had 20 more rotations.

Give him a pass until real stuff starts and everyone is playing to the same rules/load management

Despite being so-so in our praccies, heā€™s got enough creds in the bank to be in no danger at all of being replace by Dylan fkn Shiel.
