#6 Jye Caldwell - thru 2028

A 20 year old player, originally a pick 11, not a has been champion or discard. Its like an extra first round pick in the 2018 draft, retrospectively. He should be ready to play Round 1. 2021. I look forward to watching him.

It is clearly a move to reclaim some of the “lost” 2018 draft position in the lost build. Excellent work by Dodoro and his team. It’s no wonder that McCartney was bitter.

So #2 still available for the big bloke!

I think anything else would be a missed opportunity

“Some really exciting young players”. Names 3! Lol.

Surprised to read that the contested beast Joel Selwood is “only” 183cm 84kg. Given the 183cm 82kg Jye compares his game to the Geelong great there’s (potentially) a lot to like with Essendon’s new inside beast

Thanks for the share. The more you look back on that draft, the more you find about how highly Jye was rated coming in.

See here for Twomey’s 2018 Phantom where he starts getting mentioned in the mix all the way from pick 4:

If only I could turn back time. I would slap Dodoro.

But they are also set to land ex-Docker Zac Clarke through the AFL’s new rule allowing him to sign as a rookie.

So in the draft Caldwell was rated behind the following mids

Sam Walsh 39 games
Connor Rozee (fwd/mid) 38 games
Bailey Smith 41 games
Tarryn Thomas (fwd/mid) 26 games
Chayce Jones 23 games

Jye Caldwell 11 games
Hoping he can string his games together next year and start catching up to Jones and Thomas in games played.

Walsh, Rozee and Smith are firmly cemented in their teams 22 and should play unless injured.

and expect North and crows to get games into Thomas and Jones, who have had their injury troubles as well.

If Caldwell hadn’t been playing for GWS, fighting for spots vs their crazy talented midfield, then he’d have more than 11 games.

If he was fit and at Essendon he would have likely played all 40 games we have played since he was drafted.

The question to ask is would ANY of those guys get a start in the GWS mid field…Hint: the answer is no

That top 10 is seriously impressive. Pretty much every kid made an impact

But judging by how Worsher managed Parish, Jye would have played in the back pocket or somewhere else inappropriate
