#7 Zerrett - could double his Crichton/Peter Crimmins by 2027

I have a feeling he is playing hampered and has been for a few weeks. Personally I think he should be rested until after the bye.

If sore it would be a good week to rest him, Tsatas could come in and saves Merrett travelling away with the bye and a young family.

Having a career at Essendon between 2014 and 2025 (ongoing?). Fun times. Job fulfillment levels going strong.

Clearly doesn’t like the half back move

I’m confused, I was assured he was going to win the Brownlow on here, and if he didn’t then the AFL was tampering with it.

This is true. However, I have no concern with trying it. If they ideally would love Martin to be a midfielder then something must give. Abd we need quality ball users coming out of defence and Shiel didn’t work either.

This is the year to try things. The opportunity couldn’t be better for experimenting with things this year.

Merrett in his prime is not a half back just yet, he and Harley will be in control next year

Martin isn’t a midfielder, he could be but hi value on a wing/forward of centre is too valuable

What are they doing with him?wasting our best player and captain away from the play

I’m still sure he’s not right. Hopefully the bye gives him a chance to get back to his old self.

He can’t be right, why we are playing him, when we know we are going to get beaten is bizarre.
The difference between him now and the start of the season is stark.

Poor game from Merrett last night, those two flops were inexcusable

He was on brownlow pace for a while there…

He’s playing like Perkins at the moment. Looks lost, little impact with his kicking and not going in hard enough.

Hopefully the bye has come at a good time for him can relax, reload,be fresh and ready to go against GC.

The AFL’s Match Review Officer has handed down one charge from Thursday’s contest between Fremantle and Essendon.

Bombers skipper Zach Merrett has been charged with making careless contact with an umpire.

The incident occurred in the first quarter of the game at Optus Stadium.

Merrett has been handed a $1500 fine, which can be reduced to $1000 with an early plea.

It is the first charge against Merrett for the entire season so far.

No other player was charged by the MRO from Thursday’s affair.

Anyone see what this charge was for?

it in theory could work, if you had say reid, mckay and ridley playing down there also.

the problem is you have redman, roberts and potentially him all playing attacking hbf roles, so who’s actually defending.

yes need better delivery into the forwardline, but you also need to get into a position to deliver it into the forwardline, and if he can help do that, while also helping set everyone else up behind the play, there’s value to it.

would have thought it was obvious he’s been moved out of the midfield cos he’s one of the few who can, they seem to be giving some of the others more gametime in there when there’s a fair chance we were gonna lose games due to injury anyway. this way you got a look, and if no one stood up and took their chance, then hopefully they move away from those players in general.

McGrath, McKay, Ridley
Roberts, Reid, Johnson

Just need another elite user to make up the back 7, ideally that guy would be able to cover the medium type forward too.

I don’t see Redman or Prior being that guy personally.

Ridley could do it but we’d need to find a 3rd tall (Hayes?).

Johnson might grow into it.

And we have Nguyen who was showing plenty as another small defender before injury.

I hope the umpire he hit was Martin Rodger.
