#7 Zerrett in the beginning

Chicken Wing!!! Chicken Wing!!!

Pretty cool to have 4 players in the best 50. That’d be above average participation.

Given 18 goes into 50 2.7 (recurring) times, yes, it would be above average.

Would hate to see what it’s like at the other end of the spectrum.

I stole the Zerrett poster out of the HS from the cafe down stairs yesterday…they might be onto me…I think I was followed home last night.

Just picked up his brownlow predictor card… My god it would be so sweet for me if he ended up winning it this year.

Nowhere near as sweet as if Jobe does. Zez has plenty of time.

Here’s a question for you. If Jobe has a great year does he get invited to the Brownlow?

That’s not the question. The question is whether they invite Hird and he accepts the trophy in Jobe’s absence.

This young fella loves a goal I reckon and IMO has some genuine nouse around the sticks too. Is a nice compact set shot, can hoof it on the run at speed from good distance and most notably, has a terrific snap with that lightning boot-to-ball speed. Already a young Bomber star, but look out for some scoreboard damage this year from Zach.

Also, unlike McCluggage, he’s not injured all the time.

If I was Jobe and won it, I wouldn’t go to accept it.

I would. I’d call Cotchin and Mitchell to accept it with me, and just say, ■■■■ you, you pair of wannabe predators. You’re not fit to lick my boots.

Or ask whoever came second up onto the stage and sarcastically say to Bruce “So do I just give this to him now…?”

You all know he’d be far too classy to do anything like that.

Zerret was in at SEN this morning for an extended interview…

Bombers can challenge for the flag, says bullish Merrett

ESSENDON’S joint vice-captain Zach Merrett says the reassembled Bombers can challenge for the premiership this year.

The Dons, who haven’t won a final since 2004, have been boosted by the return of 10 experienced players after serving season-long doping suspensions, and Merrett’s strong belief in the club’s flag hopes will further excite its long-suffering fans.

Ahead of the Bombers’ blockbuster season-opener against Hawthorn at the MCG on Saturday night, the 21-year-old reigning club champion revealed his confidence in the club’s new direction had been reinforced by the Western Bulldogs’ astounding feats last year.

“I’m a bit nervous to have those guys back but very excited as well … that we genuinely could contend for a premiership this year,” Merrett told radio SEN on Thursday morning.

“I think we can (win the flag). I think we believed that before the Dogs did it, but now the Dogs have done it, it just gives everyone that real belief that if you get it right at the right time of the year, you can genuinely contend.”

And the classy left-footed midfielder, who has racked up an impressive 59 games in his three seasons at Bomberland, believes he’s in a prime position to help his club’s quest for its first flag since 2000, having been elevated to the vice-captaincy alongside Cale Hooker.

“When I walked into the place when I was 18, it was just about trying to influence the place and influence my teammates to try (to) win a premiership,” Merrett said.

“I didn’t really think about getting in the leadership group or being a captain or vice-captain of the club so early, but … hopefully I can influence my teammates towards success.”

Merrett also gave an insight into the anxiety felt by his returning teammates before their comeback games.

“Their first month through November they were probably super-excited and very eager, and then December and January they got back into pre-season mode and realised how much of a slog it really was,” he said.

“Now round one’s approaching, obviously guys are anxious (and there’s) a big unknown of what’s going to happen. There are a lot of unknowns but hopefully the fitness and conditioning staff have got them ready.”

That kind of misplaced optimism might be just what we need to be the best!

Well Damian Barrett has taken exception to Zerrets aspiration, apparently Clarko is the only one who is allowed to have such an objective at the beginning of the season.
Damien Barrett ought to have the aspiration to get into the top 10 movers and shapers in the AFL, because right now he is more like the flea on the tail of the AFL Dog.
