Yea Kai Lohman in hansihht but no way would any team taken him as high as pick 13 at the time. This is pure hindsight
Parish and Merrett are the main reasons Hobbs isn’t getting a game, and probably should’ve had more of a chance with Parish missing so much. When the likes of Lachie Neale are winning premierships with a good balanced and experienced midfield I wouldn’t be trading away a young bloke of a similar type. Zach and Darcy won’t be around to keep us in the mid table for much longer. Which might be a good thing.
Lol, we used to have pace when all the rage was BBM’s.
If we can get a setup like Brisbane or GWS Hobbs would be a star. He still has value for us if we pick up role players like Prior and Mcguiness with Dursma and someone in the draft who runs hard both ways. If we don’t he will struggle to get a game due to our previous recruitment.
The offer to trade back was too good to refuse but we did, we could have taken either Matt Johnson, Lohmann or van rooyen and stil had 28 left to play with.
Overall that draft is one of our absolute worst in a long time
Give him a starting position in the middle and he will flourish
Play him as sub( the. Bringing him on for 30min), or chucking him up forward and he will really struggle
It’s on Brad to actually properly develop him and utilise his strengths. But that’s not what Brad does with young players
Sorry but i have to call you out on this.
All our drafts are garbage, equally.
Sorry but I have to call you out our mid season drafts are good the rest are trash though
I was being silly, it was a joke. Maybe not a good one, but I had a long day at work.
You don’t actually work, don’t lie.
So was my comment old mate
he’s not quick enough or strong enough to play modern midfielder . he gets caught with the ball way too much . doesn’t know when to get rid of it . no way he’s a starting midfielder in any AFL side. maybe Essendon, but not in any decent AFL side
We don’t know that, he hasn’t been given enough consistent game time in his best spot to prove himself
he’s played about 50 games . quote a few times on ball . he hasn’t really improved to the level I would say midfield proposition . maybe he is for a list like Essendon , but nothing near a top 8 team. we have to turn players more often over to find the right ones . hobbs is a classic example . he will play 150 games before it’s obvious he’s not quite the level required to really be a good side
So was nearly everyone else.
A stroll down memory lane is a chuckle by the bucket.
Hobby plays a few good games early days and they’re waxing lyrical about our pick 13- ‘just who we needed’, ‘most important mid on our list by 2024’, will be another Selwood’ etc etc
The same dills are now spruiking he was the worst pick possible, was surplus to needs when selected’ unbalanced the list etc etc
Hilarious.
I think he’s good handy player better suited to being hard defensice hff or fp but no way a midfielder . unless he’s exceptionally fast or an exceptional kick or ball user which he isn’t, he doesn’t fit the mould of midfielder
The pick before Kako will tell a lot about where Rosa sees Hobbsy on the list.
They take say Armstrong then Hobbs gets an opportunity to extend his contract, which ends CoB 2025.
I just scrolled to the top of this thread and wowsers, there’s beauties. We all fall for the shiney new toy thing but people were really sold on him. I’m still a believer and wanna see what he can do as part of the midfield rotations. Too soon to make a call one way or the other. Must play at all times next year to find out where he’s at.
I’m not nearly as hard on Hobbs as others in here. His previous seasons were building very nicely for a teenager, but 2024 was not kind to him.
I can guarantee if he goes somewhere else he will grab hold of a role and will show his best traits. I hope he gets that chance if we can’t unlock it.
It’s like that for a lot of player threads. Can be an interesting read.
