#8 Marty Reppin' Gleeson - no more Marty Party

Thought it had been mentioned as a minor knock to the calf.
If the VFL hadn’t had a bye he’d probably have played & there’s no mystery.

Apart from the two weeks prior that he hadn’t played at either level but not placed on any injury list

Here is Paul’s post.

Got a mention by Murphy in the video today. Sounds like not this week but next.

Can anyone tell me how he went on the weekend?

I saw some of the last qtr, he got quite a few touches and seemed to use it pretty well. I really like Marty, I think it would be a shame if his career ended like this and I hope he can work his way back into contention somehow…

he’s done mate

He did quite well on the weekend. Didn’t do enough to knock on the door for AFL selection, but he was a solid contributor.

Yeah, I hate how it’s all gone for Marty. I was a big fan - had very high hopes.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but I’m holding out hope…

Yeah, he was coming along so well. I thought he was also quite a good player to watch; nice kick, could break a line and had some real marking ability. He’s also not far off the 100 game mark. I’d love to see him get that, at least…

He’s probably looking for one of Hind, Redman, Heppell or maybe Ridley to fall over…and might even need two of them out.

Yeah, I know. He’s a long, long way back in the queue now…

How did he go in the Port game? I turned it off in frustration after 10 minutes.

Not sure he will make it.

Also not sure how l feel about that.

There is a certain amount of romance involved in seeing him make it, along with the tangible f/s possibility down the track.

On the other hand the defensive unit has taken another direction. It now has a harder edge that Marty just doesn’t have in his skill set, or his character. The bad ankle injury set him back, and there is no making up for the pace and confidence it has cost him.

We would have to suffer multiple injuries for him to be considered for a senior game.

He’s probably the first delisted at seasons end

Been a good servant and good clubman but his time is up

Koroit got flogged Saturday. But I think he could a decent gig in the state leagues.

I’d love to see him being used as the medical emergency to try and get him to 100.

Would need 9 games as medical emergency. Can’t see it happening sadly.

There are only 13 games left, so I’d say this is highly unlikely. It’s gonna take something pretty remarkable for him to get back in, but I’ll be interested to see how he goes in the 2s from here on…

I did not see the whole game against Frankston but he was positioning himself quite well in the zone, took some good intercept marks, but the dash appears to have gone. He was marking well unopposed with nice one touch grabs but was not moving dynamically.
I mean players like Lav, Mad Dog who fight for possession and even Stewart have gone way past him as defenders. He will need to show a lot more speed, aggression and ability to win one on ones at VFL level to get into the AFL side IMO.
