Goddard will be on Talking Footy for anyone that’s interested.

I heard similar from the man himself late last year Pearcey. Was fortunate enough to have a chat to him at a golf club after his round. My understanding was he felt the captaincy was Jobe’s and he was warming the seat until he returned. Once Jobe announced he’d be standing down, BJ was very much prepared to do it again if he was deemed most suitable by the club. Turns out the club deemed Heppell most suitable of the leadership candidates elected by the playing group, which incidentally, included Goddard. Personally I’d have kept him as captain and let the returning players find their feet again before giving one of them the captaincy.

Goddard is an interesting case - His GPS numbers are elite for any player, let alone a 33 year old - He’s obviously covering the ground well, obviously recovering well after games and he’s missed about 4 games through injury in over five years - The one area in which I have noticed a weakness is aerial balls - He is definitely having trouble with this side of the game and therefore doubt he has a future playing defence - He needs to play mid/forward if he wants to go on next year.

Shake his hand, thank him for his contribution to the club and let him decide if he wants to retire or play out the year in the VFL.
Simply can’t be picked again

He and Hurley can’t play in the same half of the ground. It’s fkg embarrassing how little they defend.

Again. He has good games in him time to time, but he’s done

No coincidence that he had played well last few games and looks terrible once Hurley returns… can’t play in the same team

Sure they can. It’s called Essendon VFL.

Wish he was playing forward, switching midfield. This stage of his career think he serves us better there.

Tap tap tap.

It’s time mate. It’s time.

Needs a rest, bring in Redman!

Too slow to make a decision and too slow when he gets beaten in a 1v1

Love Goddard but it’s time.

He is still smart enough to create little pockets of space for himself to receive the ball. Put him up forward. He just isnt defensively minded enough to be played anywhere near defence

This should be his last year

The season is over. Let him play it out and transition to a coaching role like Kelly did.

But he and Hurley cannot play together in the backline.

Maybe play BJ forward and get him to help the forwards to structure better.

Should be dropped as we aim to 2020, but finals are still a mathematical possibility so…

Will never stand down and will never be tapped on the shoulder.
Will probably be offered another year.

Has been on record saying he wants two. The narrative with a lot of people here is that we owe him for dragging him through the saga, ergo he will probably get the two years.

This man is a gun. That said, is he too slow for modern footy?

The gift that keeps on giving keeps on giving. He and Hurley great servants of the club. End of the year time to say thanks for your service and goodbye. Life after footy.

Hurley looks like Jobe did in his last year.
