I’m fine with keeping Shiel next year, even as depth if Tsatas does step up.
EFA
Shiel will never be depth though.
He will be offloaded in the exact same way Heppell was. Gifted 17 odd games then managed over the course of the next 5.
I have serious reservations about keeping him on the list and the flow on effect that using him in a myopic fashion will have.
Sure, if you completely ignore that he wasn’t gifted games this year at all.
Valid question whether he offered value to the list, though. I can’t see any way in which he’s part of future success.
Heppell absolutely was. It’s no coincidence that he was only dropped after he reached his 250th. His form didn’t fall off a cliff, he was just ■■■■ and we carried him
Steak knives is all he will be unfortunately.
Use him to help upgrade our first round pick, or alternatively get a later pick in which we can use in a Kako bid. Him gone should mean either a) greater opportunity for Tsatas, or b) restoring the CBA of Durham, who before Shiel came back into the team was a likely AA squad candidate…
I want to see Calders, Durham, Tsatas and Hobbs getting as much midfield time together as possible.
If Merrett wants to extend his career into our next “window” he’ll need to find a role at halfback or forward.
All Shiel does is stymieing development.
This is how Essendon roles, Hobbs is gone btw.
Next window?
Have you heard something regarding Hobbs?
hes being sent back to the wimmera
No mate, just opinion and for the record I hope he stays.
All good. I really hope he stays too, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he wanted out
I think Geelong could be a very good fit for Shiel. Could help with their stoppage work; give Danger a chop out and they are still a team that play finals and can win it.
When he came back in, he played as well as he ever has for us. Blitzers are quick to point out that Zac could play into his mid to late 30s but are just as quick to write off Shiel and say he has 1 to 2 years maximum left. Many Blitzers also point out how well Dyl prepares for games. So there should not be such a large discrepancy between the projected possible games for these 2 players.
Yep, if Geelong’s 80+ point demolition of the second placed team taught us anything, its that they need a washed up Dylan Shiel.
He’s NOT “washed-up” !!
