One frustrating element to Robey’s game I’ve noticed a lot over the past few weeks that he needs to work on, if the kick isn’t perfectly placed on top of his head, he will simply not even contest for it. Just turns his back to the ball like the kick wasn’t intended for him and let’s the opposition win an easy possession. In a team like Essendon this is an even bigger issue coz rarely is the kick laced out.
He was ordinary today but he can forgiven for a bad game after how good he has been.
Not sure who I’d pick first out of Farrow Sharp and him. Such a good 3
Was not at his best but still found a way to score a goal to help provide some good spark. Positive signs for sure.
The bye has come at a good time for him. Freshen up and then attack the back half of the season.
He looks like he needs the rest. An interrupted preseason, his first season and today he looked heavy and tired.
Needs more midfield minutes
It’s a real strength that even though he was poor today he can go forward and still provide a presence. Standing up in tackles, blocking, pushing and shoving.
I have asked for robey to spend more time forward for the last three weeks. he doesn’t have the fitness to be a full time mid, while we need to see if he can have an impact forward.
One thing Sully has is when he tackles someone, they don’t slip from his grasp. Very strong boy.
The thing I love about Robey is that he shapes as that Patty Cripps type inside bull from an attacking sense, but he seems to have the defensive intent and athleticism to chase/tackle/defend well also. Something that similar style Brownlow winning mids Cripps, Watson, Martin, Fyfe have lacked in. The coaches don’t have to mould a game plan around 1 player’s defensive weaknesses.
Defo reckon he was due a rest.
He plays a physical brand of footy and his lack of pre season is catching up with him
Probably my highlight of the season so far. It’s not his ‘special’ moments as much as the core basics of his game (marking, kicking, footy IQ and his intent in the contest).
He’s really exceeded where i thought he’d be at after his interrupted pre season.
The bye came at a good time.
At least now with Sharp back we can alternate full midfield games for each to then more of a forward role the next week.
He didn’t seem to be attending many centre bounces against Melbourne.
What a legend spraying Ben McKay so bad that he was blocked by Ben and then gets drafted to Essendon
ONE OF US
(Don’t condone abusing players btw but Sully can do as he likes)
He’s clearly an Essendon person. Make him head coach.
At least we know he can give honest feedback
Keep building his engine and get more fitness and you will see him fend off Harley Reid again with ease
He is too tall - will get called for high contact…
