Hard to be a second ruck with no forward craft. how he didn’t spend more time forward in the VFL is mind boggling. He’s no. 1 banana or not at all imo. Like others have said in order for him to make it he needs to become a running machine.
Oh right - I haven’t been following that.
This is THE most important factor in the next coaching setup. People who say “give this guy two years, if it doesn’t work out we are no worse off than now” are utterly wrong. If we don’t create the core of a good side from the kids currently on the list, we are stuffed. The next two or three years are critical.

Surely it’s a bit of both. Cats consistently develop players well so there must be an element on Lappin also having a great process that is aligned to the players attitude putting in the work

but tbh i agree, self motivation is a key factor for improving.
Just like anyone who is elite at managing people, you need to be able to challenge them and push them to strive.
How much emphasis of development coaching is on their ability to challenge players, and how much is placed on knowledge of the game? I think we have gone the latter. I feel like our development coaches are introverts.
But effectively it all comes down to culture. If there is a strong player led culture about working hard and improving, then you’re probably going to have a good development program. If your players just want to get home as quickly as possible to play xbox, then Maybe that says something too.

He was transitioning with the footy alot better in the third quarter.
Seemed to realise he had time and space around him.
Im confident he will work it out.

We have one here. Over the last 5 games, his average Player Rating is 10.3, which includes a stinker of a game against Richmond.
To put that in perspective, only 30 players aged under 24 have a better Player Rating than that. Only 14 players aged under 21 have a better rating than that. This guy is just in his 8th game.
