#9 - Sullivan Robey ⭐

It’s early, but he feels like the first player we’ve had in a while that when the chips are down in a big game, could simply put the team on his back and win a game.

That’s purely potential, but it’s felt like a while since we’ve had a player with that ceiling.

You can see how much extra work Cox and Reid are doing……

I hope not or Blitz would be shut down right now.

Players need to buy into their own development but development coaches are still extremely important.

Identifying areas of improvement, and creating training plans, feedback and guidance is still vital.

None of development coaches could make breakthrough with Voss and none thought to mention to Mass that he is allowed to turn right occasionally.

It’s a common theme we see with our better players looking outside the club for development mentors, Merrett, Roberts have both actively engaged with other players from other clubs for advise.

He had no preseason and hence doesn’t have the tank for repeat sprints (which you need to get involved in transition chains).

It will come. I’m excited to see the shape he turns up in next season. I reckon he will slim down, loose some of that home gym chunk and start being able to move a bit more freely.

Might get to see him against Cripps this week. The old bull v the new bull, will be good for him no matter what the result

so no preseason and his leading us in contested possies week in week out. 2 more years and he will become the face of Essendon and all Australian candidate.

Thought his first half was the best I’ve seen him yet. Second half he disappeared unfortunately.

It’ll be interesting to see how Innes and the coaches decide to approach his body shape going forward. On the one hand, I love how he can just absorb physical pressure/contact and still get off a clean disposal. It opens up so much space everyone else. On the other hand, I feel like he’s still a little heavy to play full time mid if that’s his future. Hopefully he’ll naturally get a little leaner but more muscular, retaining the power while increasing his outside run.

I was super impressed with his clean marking last year, and just wanted to raise it again as a real stand out attribute. I think he’s going to be one of the few true midfielders in the comp that are also legit marking targets around the ground.

Don’t let the coaching staff touch him, just let him keep doing what he has been with his dad each year.

2nd on the ground for Pressure acts with 23…. He led the ground with 6 tackles.

For a guy who is playing with a lack of fitness

Firm agree.

As a club we have no right telling a footballer as pure as Robey what to do.

He can tell us what the Farking plan is and we can say “yes, Mr Robey”.

I want to see him get more to the outside and see him improve his link play.

Add to that first one in when the fight is on. Funny it was the kids sticking up for each other, the usual weak senior players did nothing

He loves a fight.

2 weeks ago a scuffle broke out in defense. And Robey and Day-Wicks ran from the other side of the ground to get involved.

Theyre both actually locking for a fight.
