We’ve been regarding the occasional 10mm+ days as similar to the (non-existent) Biblical flood.
Anyone else in the eastern suburbs get woken up by what sounded like a mini-tornado last night? Not sure what time it was, but heavy rain was coming in sideways lashing the windows and the wind was ferocious - well over 40 knots if I had to guess.
I drew the curtains this morning expecting to see carnage, but other than a fair bit of debris up and down the street from people’s wheelie bins (it was bin night) nothing much. Whatever it was, it obviously didn’t last too long (certainly there’s no reports of it).
Yep sure did, down near Cranbourne. Ripped through. No damage but it woke us all up in the household.
A fairly vigorous front moved through around midnight last night.
It mostly affected bayside, but the rain-belt caught a bit of it too.
Storm Amy is soaking the entireity of the UK in rain it is chucking it down outside as I write this and after the hot dry summer we’ve had in England it is much needed.
Bloody love a big chunk of rain
I first read that as “Storm Army”, which of course are heading for or already in Sydney.
Glorious rain in Melbourne at the moment.
We have just completed two straight days of it here.
Water can be quite wet when there’s a lot of it in a concentrated area.
Summer has arrived early in Sydney. We are expected to get to 39 today.
I sea what you did there…
Pretty much missed us.
1.2mm, windy as f*** but.
I was at Beech Forest over the weekend. Hadn’t been there for a little over a month. Found 279mm in the rain gauge. Total for the calendar year so far is 1173mm
The new BoM site is taking a bit to get used to.
Anyway, a lot of rain coming to the Melbourne area:
Just popped down to Knox shopping centre.
Absolutely flogging down with rain.
Bit of an electrical show too…
Taken from FB, but this is a really good summation of the BoM issues. Especially why the rain radar is/was inaccurate over the recent period of storms in Vic and QLD.
The radar was lagging, a couple of times yesterday heavy falls would happen at my place and I’d check the radar and it would show the storm still yet to be over my place. Also the radar wouldn’t show the dark red which was explained in the above post. Very confusing ![]()
Just got fkg drenched taking the dog for a quick lunchbreak walk after the BoM radar assured me there was no rain around. It kept up that level of blissful confidence even when I could hardly read the phone screen cos of the raindrops on it.
