Arguing about who we have drafted or should have drafted is irrelevant. The bottom line is we have not won a final for 15 years. We are also languishing around the bottom of the pile. We dont look to be going anywhere in the foreseeable future.
All this add up to a lack of class players. Blame who you like, it in an undeniable fact.
Yeh Iām thinking
āpick number 5 essendon football clubāā¦
midfield specialist: āadrian just step out of the room for a bit and come back in an hour or so, thanks mateā.
If you take out Martin and maybe Cotchin/Jack, who else are class players at Richmond? Most of them are patched up footballers who are playing stellar football.
Hey Ice, I respect your right to your opinion but I would say that Rance is a very classy player. Many would include Houli deledio and Prestia.
Who would you say are class a EFC except Joe and maybe Zerrett.
Many players come into AFL system and donāt have tank to play midfield immediately despite them doing so in juniors.
LAV was started in fwd line in AFL. Then injuries continually preventing him building up to be able to be deployed in midfield more
Was flying preseason and injured again, now working back from that still. And frankly our fwd line wouldnāt have been great to be a part of recent times. Poor ball movement/lack of inside 50ās
IMO LAV probably needs what Lang has had happen and thatās a solid run in midfield in VFL, hasnāt had any opportunity for that part of his development yet.
I donāt think Rance is as classy as the media make him out to be, but thatās just my opinion. Houli isnāt classy imo either, he is hard working though and Deledio is at GWS when not injured. Prestia yeah I would probably accept that one (I really wanted us to get him).
Zerret, Fantasia, JoeDan (when not injured), McGrath, Stringer (if fit and firing), Smith are all classy players imo. Conor isnāt bad when in full flight as well, itās just his kicking style looks ungainly which can wreck the classy look lol.
Unfortunately running PBās doesnāt equate to being a good footballer and so far heās shown ā ā ā ā all to suggest he will be a good footballer at AFL level.
Sure being fit makes a big difference and injuries have hindered him so far but good players still show glimpses and i would argue heās barely done that at best. His lack of agility is a major concern and he basically runs on tram tracks.
Our problem is we never really get our players to the elite category, like your GAJ, selwood, Parker etc. They hover around B+ grade with the couple of years at A grade but thats it. There is no 4-5 years of continual A grade output. Until we find and then develop those sort of players we will never get close to top 4
Are you confusing class with classy or flashy? I consider players as āclassā if they are at or near the best at what they do. By that standard Rance is absolutely a class player way way more than our players youāve listed. If youāre talking about classy or flashy players Iād argue those types of players are less critical to getting to the top parts of the ladder than guys who routinely play at a high level.
Iād like to know who you consider as patched up players at Richmond? Prestia and Caddy are both very good players for mine,. Lambert is underrated and even guys like Vlaustin and Ellis are capable of top quality football. Houli is clearly one of the most effective rebounders in the league so while I donāt rate him as overly classy he is a class performer. Nankervis has been right up near the best performed rucks over the last 18 months.
