I always suspected Essendon football club was run by a Matrix Organisation.

Woosh-a.

Essendon Football Club Executive Team:
Chief Executive Officer – Xavier Campbell
Chief Operating Officer – Kevin Dixon
Chief Marketing Officer – Justin Rodski
General Manager Community, Academies and Women’s Football Development – Darren Harris
General Manager Commercial Operations – Brenton Humphreys
General Manager People and Culture – Lisa Lawry
General Manager Corporate Services – Chris Pehlivanis
General Manager of Football – Dan Richardson
General Manager The Long Walk and Indigenous Affairs – Leanne Brooke
General Manager List, Recruiting and Jackets – Adrian Dodoro

When your executive team report into each other and not the CEO / MD then it’s too big. This is way too big.

Meanwhile, and more importantly; does this now mean the boardrooms coat hanger has been made redundant?

Or

Does Xavier have to dust off the credit card and buy an extra coat hanger for the General Manger of Jackets?

I hope Dodoro is having a look at Jeremy Finlayson from the Giants who is out of contract this year. Seems a very decent prospect for our key defender stocks. Not much hype about this guy, but he impresses

Has a cannon of a left foot too.

Looks like he is going to be a player.

I think the cat is out of the bag - Finlayson will be on every clubs shopping list if he has any inclination to leave. Maybe we could get him to play midfield

Been very impressive. But he was an academy selection so doubt he’d go anywhere.

He’s basically playing a Gleeson type role but is a big boy, got some c&nt about him and also beautiful kick on him. Really went for some risky kicks & pulled them off most times on weekend.

Like a Matthew Kennedy, Jack Steele kind of academy player?

Operation Sloane or Wines.
Just fkin get one of em.

Why not both?

The issues at the club, have very little to do with the players we have on the field.

We’ve delisted 90% of our list in the last 5-6 years. Imo our best 22 is about about 85% complete. Yet we are performing like it’s at about 30% complete.

The issue at the club is cultural and systemic. It runs deeper than simple personnel. The attitute around the club needs to change if we’re going to get better.

Getting someone like Sloane will make us look great on paper. But it doesn’t change most of the issues at the club.

Had any other club had a recruiting boss stay as long as he has?

Agreed

Everyone keeps harping on the Tigers as how to go about things of recent times but their situation would be similar above the shoulders.

They had a core bunch of stars and heap of rabble supporting players and whilst did well always seemed to mentally drop the ball

In the year they missed the finals it was looked at that despite all the talent they were often last in tackles / pressure so were allowing opposition to score too easily.

Slow players even if they were ball winners were moved out of team. A host of small running players bought in.

Losing two finals and then missing finals altogether seemingly the spur to have the whole list buy into fact they would go nowhere unless everyone on board with the defensive game. And also spreading hard & fast when have the footy.

And as soon as they started getting results from it & confidence grew its become complete buy in and a non-negotiable

The Dogs previously had similar mindset, won the flag, lost their way and now seemingly after being smacked first two rounds got that ferocious mindset back.

When will EFC reach the point of enough is enough also? Here’s hoping its happened now with Woosh saying we could not have played worse.

The problem for us to a degree IMO is we almost have too much talent onfield, who perhaps have gotten ahead of themselves or never had to play a selfless role, and not enough nobody type role players who know their careers simply won’t exist if they don’t buy into the defensive ethos all game every game. And also don’t run their guts out to spread even if it’s unrewarded running simply to open up ground to allow easier ball movement for rest of team.

Too many mids who are used to being /play better being the main men rather than the supporting act.

Maybe the Jerretts of our list do have a place. Or maybe we just need more depth so that those high picks or big heads heed the message when they get dropped for others who will do what’s required.

It’s definitely mental application & attitude that’s missing.

And that’s not just in defensive actions but also in lack of care with disposal. We have to be better.

I don’t think so.

To me, that’s actually the most relevant aspect to any debate about Dodoro.

Regardless of whether he is highly regarded, or has drafted well, or has been let down by development, or has had some bad luck with injuries to high draft picks, or any of that…

This guy has been in a senior position longer than anybody else bar Doc Reid. And the team has had no success in that time.

Does he have a job for life? What could possibly have earnt him that? And if he doesn’t, how many years do we have to be sh*t for, before we at least ‘try something else’ in recruitment and list management?

If Dodoro were on the market he would be snapped up in a second.

He has put together an incredibly strong list in the last 5 years under duress and with multiple coaches all wanting different things.

Not sure what else he cold have done to be honest.
