AFL Trade Radio

LOL farking 3 days of them all talking crap and waiting for something to happen and then when it finally does happen they can’t even talk about it with any degree of knowledge or clarity.

Someone came on TR and asked if you were the coach would you pick Heppell or Merrett as captain.

Cooney said that Zerrett isn’t ready to be captain, is still really learning the roles he plays and his own game and is quiet on the track. He then said the Heps is very active on the track, very strong on what he expects of the players, is very sociable and gets on well with all the players and actually has a very good relationship with management and can get them to understand what the players think and require.

Zerrett might be more vocal this year than when Cooney was there but yep, no reason to change Hepp from the skipper.
It also adds a extra load to the player which zerrett doesnt need as he already needs to deal with the Tag.
Good to hear Dyson gets on well with management, but its probably expected, given all the things he has had to do, eg handing over womens footy application to AFL etc.

Zerrettt probably needs to do some more media - Footy shows etc build his profile a bit.

I would actually probably prefer Daniher as captain post Heppell, and then McGrath. So Zerrett may not even get a chance.

It’s almost as if just being a really good player isn’t the entirety of the role of captain.

Hopefully some people on here take note of this.

yep

Assuming the same ladder positions GWS get pick 11 (1329 points) plus pick 48 in 2018 (302 points). We get pick 24 (785 points) plus pick 33 in 2018 (563 points). Effectively we paid the difference of 283 points for Smith, which is about pick 49.

That’s fkn amazing!

Well played Dodoro & team.

It’s even better assuming we rise up the ladder also. Which we will.

Dodoro has killed it so far.

Looking like a promising trade period.

So what is 1046 points worth this year (our net gain along with smith for 11)? Cos that defines our ‘steak knives’ in one pick.

Just goes to show how much clubs value the points system.

Stuff is flying people! Everywhere!

I think I follow you…

You’d get a bit of change back from pick 17

Yep, not much. Maybe they have a particular youngster in mind and 11 is a chance and 24 is not.

On the points, in this year’s terms consolidated to a single mythical pick, we got smith and 17 (24 plus assumed pick swap points next yr) for 11. Of course we don’t actually get 17, but that’s the points value.

Ps thanks nod, that’s what I meant.

Trade radio is a lot like rolling news coverage of disasters.

Essendon List Manager Adrian Dodoro is confident securing the deal for Devon Smith will help the Club land its other trade targets.

Smith became the Bombers first acquisition of the trade period when he signed a four-year deal with the Club.

Under the deal with GWS, the Dons receive Smith, pick 23 and a future second round pick.

In return the Giants receive pick 11 and a future third round selection.

It leaves the Bombers with four second round picks over the next two years and next year’s first round selection to use to try to secure Jake Stringer and Adam Saad who have expressed a desire to play for the Club.

“We’re being very proactive in trying to get the deals done as quickly as we can,” Dodoro said.

“We’re on the move and we’ve got some ammunition up our sleeve to try and get the other two deals done hopefully … we hope to get them done fairly quickly.”

Smith played 109 games for the Giants and kicked 100 goals.

Dodoro expects Smith to be used in the midfield when he runs out for the Bombers for the first time.

“Devon has got speed and endurance, he uses the ball really well, he’s got a really good footy brain and I go back to his numbers at TAC Cup – he was getting high 30s (disposals) week in and week out,” he said.

“We’re starting to get a really nice mix and he’s a beautiful age demographic around 23-24 years of age and he’s got another eight or nine years of really good football ahead of him."

Smith made his debut in 2012 and played 16 games this season.

He started the season with two three goals hauls and averaged five tackles per game.

“He is an exceptional talent, he was second in the best and fairest at a young age and he’s coming from a club that has got a lot of talent but he just couldn’t get in the midfield,” Dodoro said.

“He gets that opportunity with us and I think he’ll prove to be an excellent player.”
