How can you start the season at 3-0 and then turn into a complete basket case of a team
Quite impressive that the girls mirrored the same season as the men. Essendon the best club in the league at failing lols
Four aclâs plus injuries to key members of the squad doesnât help the team balance. The form drop off of some experienced players is another matter.
How does that work when the womenâs team started 3-0?
Club as a whole in no manâs land
Not sure when or how but itâs a deep pit at the moment and gon a take alot especially for the men
Reasonable assumption we lose next week. Bin Chickens need the win to make finals.
(I assume youâre arguing the wording is inconsistent with 3 from 25⌠meh.)
I donât understand the 0/22 part. Is it just ignoring the first three wins and combining with the losing streak to end the menâs season? Why not ignore all the wins if we are making up streaks?
Each year I watch the first 4-5 games and then as much as I want to give the girls support itâs just as triggering as the gents.
the club really struggle with the basics of footy
Itâs been a really disappointing season. The Club has lost ground this year in the womenâs program. Injuries have hurt but I suspect thereâs more to the teams form drop. Players donât look fit (Prespsrkis needs to lose weight and review her season and standards), players skill level is really poor or non existent in some instances and there is potentially a connection and morale issue in the group and their relationship with the menâs program.
A season of regression and a need for critical review. The Womenâs program has been a beacon for a few years but this year the wheels fell off and murmurings have emerged.
The crowds have understandably dropped off and momentum with engagement of fans has been poor as a result.
On and off field concerns need a good review.
Sheâs not the problem. One of two players to receive CMM votes in every game.
2020 was league B&F:
Guess which team we are!
(There must have been one crazy game, because zero is the usual. MaggieM is the only player with more than one for the year.)
DJR, you watch them more than anyone. Other than injury what are the areas they need to sort out ahead of 2026?
The gameplan is set up for AFLW three years ago and not what it is now.
Thatâs 80% of our issues.
- We are fourth for handballs and third-last for kicks (GWS are similar, but even more skewed) . That represents both our squad and our planning.
- Five players have had a bounce this year: Cain, MaggieM, G, Clarke, and Bannister. Gee is our only outside legit-fast player, and âchanging the gameplanâ when you donât have the right mix of players is not easy.
- We need a new gun BIG forward AND back. Brown doesnât lose contests by cleverly failing to be in them, and we have a 75-gamer up forward who is the definition of soft. Gamble has a go but is terrifying whenever she has a âraceâ to a loose ball. The suggestion a while back that Smith from the Bears was interested would definitely help, even though sheâs not truly BIG.
- Der, we need Gay and vanDeHeuvel back to give us something resembling attacking rebound. Gough has to become a star (wherever on the ground that may be).
- Wales Gaylor and Adams are the only kids you can say will be stars, or at the very least someone who would not detract from a star team. And Wales hasnât tried to kick more than 30 metres since 2023.
- Shut up, Belloni is next to join that list, but TBC.
- Any team with half their players at <50% disposal efficiency is doomed. That includes leaders in Cain, Toogood, Bannister, Alexander, Prespakis, and Morcom.
- Random stat: MiaVanDyke leads our metres gained per disposal, and sheâs a below-average player at VFLW level. Contrary stat: she has the highest ratio of clanger disposals (50%).
- Bonnie still leads the bulk of our scoring stats despite being up the ground half the time, but has personally failed to convert. This game being a nasty example of that: McDonagh 3.1 Bonnie 0.4 makes the game non-competitive.
- Does anyone know what role Matilda Dyke plays in our team? Sheâs the alternative Nik Cox (wing/ruck/back/WTF). Less skill, but she tries harder, breaks less, and has no competition for whatever spot sheâs filling each week.
Bonnie has been a flop yep agree we need a new big gun forward
4 behinds thatâs not just good enough for a key forward
The âflopâ is leading most of our scoring/forward stats: shots by almost twice as much as next best, greatest proportion of score involvements (35%), best for 1on1 wins forward, marks inside fifty, and second for leading marks behind small-sample Walker.
But yes, this year she has the worst accuracy in the team except for a bunch of zeroes who have failed to kick a goal. While it hasnât necessarily felt like it â sheâs kicked some ridiculous goals â sheâs never been high on that scale.
EDIT: also, clearly (hopefully) this was yet another post made without actually watching the game. Bonnie was BOG in that first quarter.
Sure, but that is a potential chicken/egg situation. Are we maintaining the list to fit a gameplan, or shaping the gameplan to fit a list?
Otherwise, pretty much agree with all the other points. Toogood needs support up forward, I thought it may be Gamble, but Iâm now less convinced about that. Could be Gough but sheâll need time. Tay Smith would be a great get.
Never stops wanting the ball!
Those successive efforts in the third quarter on our forward flank were epic.
the gameplan is set up for the fact more than half your side canât consistently win 1 on 1 contests, lack composure in said contests, and then be default end up making some god aweful decisions after initially losing the original contest.
that and poorly skilled and decision making is poor.
the coach should go though, whatever she thinks sheâs trying to implement in the womans side, neither the gameplan or the list can execute whatever it is they are trying.
