I’m still trying to work out in my head how a game of australian rules football can fit in a 100m × 70m field. Even with reduced players it just seems to small when it’s two kicks to goal.

Four sets of goal posts (one on each side). 4 teams. 2v2 (A vs B, C vs D). One football. 22 umpires.

You know - if the AFL wanted to bring in a comparative thing to Big Bash or whatever, to fill in some gaps. Fine. Just don’t field it with AFL players. Use VFL/TAC/Whatevr. Specialists, even. Got no tank but plenty of flair? Easy. It would sink or swim on it’s own merit, rather than try and draw a crowd at the expense of our 1sts.

JLT series reduced from 3 weeks to 2 to allow for one weekend of aflx games.
Why interrupt pre-season with this ■■■■? Clubs will be building to round 1 and not be interested in planning for this.

What is AFLX?

Played on a soccer-sized field

Played between two sides of seven, three on each interchange bench

Ten-minute quarters

No centre bounces (kick-ins from full-back after each goal)

I suppose X may partly denote it is 10 players a side (albeit 7’s on the field).
