Our senior players have flaws but it would have been pretty hard work out there for them. Laverede and McGrath and a bunch of rookies. Gresham and Guelfi and a bunch of inexperienced players up forward. I’m more angry about the Adelaide type games TBH.
Was Roberts on Stengle?
Yeah third quarter I thought we were going to come back, you could to even tell the cats supporters next to me were getting restless. But it really did go to shot quick.
I’m not particularly fussed about the result. Geelong were always going to belt us. It’s a bit of an indictment on Brisbane and Carlton that they didn’t.
The thing that confounds me is what the heck we are trying to achieve with our game plan. It’s so slow, unintuitive and boring. We might think that we are limiting the damage by going slow but all we do is invite a ton of pressure before inevitably turning it over. I think Scott is a dogshit coach at the absolute best of times but his inability to develop anything resembling a sustainable game plan has to be the biggest mark.
nailed it
Are certain sections of this forum now beginning to understand just how completely pointless some of those earlier season wins (2 points vs WCE, 3 points vs North Melbourne etc) actually were?
It has completely inflated our win/loss ratio to a very flattering level and will compromise our draft order - which, as the last month has shown, needs to be our absolute priority right now.
Hope you enjoyed your sugar hit at the time with some of those pointless wins. You were warned.
You could say this about a few games, but if Sydney kicked straight, we’d be 15th. Exactly where we should be.
But there’s still plenty of time to fall down the ladder. For example, if Blues beat Eagles and Port and Dees don’t draw, we will be 12th by the end of the round.
I am resigned to the fact we are going to snag a win somewhere on the run home. An upset somewhere…
But we just need to climb down that ladder ASAP and stay there for the remainder of the season. 6 wins to this stage of the season for a list of this quality (or lack of) is ridiculous.
Percentage of 78% plus being involved in the two worst defeats of the season across the whole competition, margin wise (91 points vs WB, 95 points vs Geelong) says all we need to know.
Or it could be the opposite and the luck runs out and we cop an upset loss ourselves.
Big games are:
- Richmond in 4 weeks
- Giants at home
- Sydney in Sydney
- St Kilda
The only one there we are in any danger of winning is Richmond.
Their 10 goal win against us in our last outing & the ability for RL to completely stifle any sort of scoring potential of very mediocre teams like us who never have a strategy, or the required footy IQ, to counter it means they should be feeling pretty good about that one.
They’d be doing us a big favour.
At the end of a season when we have finished mid-table, all wins are pointless.
Any win now is positive. A 95 point loss to maybe the best team in the competition is a flogging, but even in the misery, I saw good signs.
Richmond and St Kilda are the only 2 wins left.
And to be fair 8 wins is pretty bang on for where we are
All players have adopted a culture from previous players, crossing paths and cultures happens at every club.
Unfortunately our killer instinct from the Sheedy era, is no longer tolerated today and has diluted through the years.
How do you think Geelong, Sydney, Hawthorn and co rarely bottom out
I just can’t agree there, if we drop those 2 and even say the chickens game as well that’s 3 wins. Thats on the level of Richmond, Gorth and WC. We are better than that, not by much yes, but 6 wins, most of which banked by the annual injury curse struck is about right.
Have Geelong, Collingwood, Brisbane and Adelaide ever tanked to try and get pick 1 in recent memory?
What loser point of view.
Sugar hit to win a game of football? Please.
Have you ever played a competitive game of sport in your life at any level?
They had a priority pick in 1999 to get Josh Fraser, then used high picks in 2005 to get Thomas and Pendles.
But i do mostly agree. I hate the “sugar hit” win argument
Nothing surer than us beating the Suns in the catch-up game.
Mid week game during bye week before finals. Suns will rest half their side
