I agree with Carlton but Sydney played in a GF last year, watch them reset and go past us again. 25 years since ultimate success and 20+ years with a finals win, that is definitely in ‘no man’s land”. Yes, we have a young list playing at the moment but would we without injuries?
The only difference I see is Rosa with recruitment and turning over of list which I think needs to run deeper. Too many good average afl players on our list with long term contracts that are not going to take us forward and will hinder the development of the young guys coming through.
This. I have been out on Scott for ages so acknowledge my prejudice but this off season is when he can no longer hide behind excuses and “seeing where the list is at”. If he doesn’t offload players like Parish and Lav (even though I love him) and at least try To move Perkins, Gresham etc on then we know he’s not the one and he needs to go- massive few months coming up for him
A lot of sound reasoning in this post. Gresham and Perkins are not up to it - try anyone else in their positions. McGrath’s skill errors regularly cost 3-4 goals per week - he is the new Heppell. Two-Metre Peter gave more than most last night. Prior is not the answer in defence, but neither are Redman nor Ridley when they play.
Thanks. Been a while since on here, but seeing the Bombers live yesterday really reinforced how far away from anything we are.
I would also add that Caddy needs to work harder but also some football smarts to get separation from his defenders, not just when on leads, but also when craeting options for players at half-back. Caddy’s little mate Kako has been gifted a while half season and might have the potential to star, but at the moment he might also end up as yet another EFC small forward who is good at not committing to a contest and running to where the ball will never go, if last night was any guide. I was disappointed by their both. But the delivery forward was not great either.
I thought 2M Peter tried hard most of the game. Goldstein deserves great respect for his effort at yoda-like age. Roberts could be a real star in years to come. Clarke shows potential. They seem to be trying different people on-ball as Merrett fills holes elsewhere but geez, Parish is looking like a good GVL or O&M League up-country player and that’s about it. Setterfield showed great heart. The debutants would be welcoming the chance at their dream and thinking ‘be careful what you wish for’. Lual tries, which was encouraging. I feel sorry for Laverde, he’s had to be a key defender for years, in really tough years, and cops it from many when he’s left to try and clean up the mess of others.
Seems like you haven’t missed much.
I think you could add Johnson to the potentially very good player list.
Agree, about Caddy & Kako; but, I put that down to more the coaching, our forward line & structure is a shambles and lacks direction & leadership.
