Any blitzers live within a stone’s throw of New York City?
I have recently moved out to the northeast US and am missing watching footy with other like-minded essendon fans. There are two pubs in midtown NYC, The Australian (probably a cover charge), and the Galway ($20 cover), that will be showing the Anzac day game live (bounce is at 1.20am saturday us eastern time). Anyone got any experience with these places? Anyone planning to go/want to check it out? There is also an Anzac day dawn service at the Vietnam Veterans plaza in lower Manhattan starting at 5.30am. Celebrate thrashing the pies until the small hours and then head downtown for the dawn service. Anyone doing this? Or interested in doing this?
huh. Well if I can get in there early enough hopefully I will find a decent spot. Wonder if they will put the Carlton/St Kilda game on, starts at 9pm, would be a nice curtain-raiser if the Bloos get beat up by the Saints rabble.

From memory it was packed around the time of the first bounce, but by the final quarter the night had gotten a bit too long for lots of people. It don’t imagine it will be as busy as say the grand final, or State of Origin get.
We’ll probably be aiming to get there around 2200, and have reserved a table.
The owner is huge sports fan, and it’s normally the best place in the city to watch any Australian sports. They even record games, and will put a replay on if you want to watch it at a more civilised time.
We arrived here on ANZAC Day in Australia. Literally got a cab from the airport to our hotel, dropped our bags, and went to The Australian to watch the game.
is it likely to be busy? I tried to go there to watch the NZ vs West Indies world cup QF and there was a line out the door, but that may have been due to the march madness basketball. Was a bit crappy actually, the basketball ran late so they said they weren’t going to play the cricket until 1.5hrs after the start, to finish the basketball coverage. Looked like they had plenty of TVs too. I didn’t wait around.
The Australian is a good spot. If you can, book a table near the TV’s on the wall. I’m back in Aus now, but many times did I wander the streets of NYC in an Essendon guernsey at 4am.
