ANZAC Day - speculation and argument for changes vs Pies 2019

Concur.
I have thoughts on others but this is not the thread.

Can we have a look at their defence against our forwards?
Stringer- Howe
Daniher- Moore
RAZ - Maynard
Tippa - Philips???
Smith- Langdon
Brown - roughhead

They have a decent defence to shut down our forwards.

At the other end
Ambrose - de goey
Hooker - Cox
Hurley -???
McKenna - Thomas
Saad - Stephenson
Ridley - Elliott
Redman- Mihochek.

This is the classic ā€œwon in the midfieldā€ if we can move the ball quickly and get out the back often enough we may have a chance. Must must must get on top in the middle and have our small forwards run riot.
Also need our talls to kick straight, missed far too many easy ones last week

Stephenson is far too tall for Saad, and heā€™s decent overhead too.
Hurley, for mine. And I donā€™t think thatā€™s overrating Stephenson.

Their forwardline worries the hell out of me.
Their backline, not so much.

Edit: Mihocek seems a big ask for Ridley, too.

Redman for Mihochek.

Did Hurls play on Stephenson last year?

Iā€™m suddenly much less confident than I was 20 minutes ago

Francis might have to wait or play another role for a few years
BZT is still a fair way off I reckon and is glad that Essendon drafted him as he would still be delivering pizzas in South Australia otherwise

Highly doubt thatā€™ll happen, Mihochek is too big and strong for Redman, itā€™ll be Hurley or Ambrose on him, depending on who we prefer on De Goey

Thereā€™s no way Hurley goes to Stephenson, heā€™ll be handled by one of speedy defenders not our big bear in Hurley

McKenna or Redman on Stephenson, Hurley will get torched for pace

So much this. We need to win this one!

I loved the enthusiasm Ham brought but needs a few more kgs and I assume itā€™s going to be another mid out for Zac/Smith so unfortunately I think thatā€™s Guelfi even though he played his best game this year. Baggs has moments where he looks a liability but you canā€™t question his desire but Laverde might make us too tall. Really tough choices this week.

Sugar I get the feeling you may be inferring its perhaps a particular TIME for the Essendon Football Club in this fixture.

Get Sheeds in there when Worsfold does his pre game speach.

sheeds only revs up the boomer supporter base.

I think our forwards will trouble their backs for pace and mobilty. Brown will be too mobile for Roughhead. And, assuming Aish is out with concussion, they donā€™t have good matchups for Walla and Fanta. (Maynard is the smallest of their backs at 189cm and 90kg.) Stringer will need to drag Howe out of the action to limit his intercept marking.

We matchup better against their forwards. Ambrose (191) and Hurley (192) take De Goey (188) and Mihochek (192). Hooker (198) takes Cox (211), Saad (178) to Elliot (178), Ridley (192) and Redman (187) to Stephenson (188) and Thomas (178).

McKenna runs riot thru the middle!

Simple.

Stephenson is just too quick for Hurls I reckon. He is their fastest player.
Maybe give the task to Redman for a while, see how he goes. If itā€™s not working, get McKenna to get his teeth stuck into the problem.

What I remember of his draft write ups is heā€™d been thrown forward and back and done well, (as well as playing mid). That gave him a point of difference.
Just love to see him tidy up his kicking.

We had to endure the 70ā€™sā€¦
