Our problem is not a coaching issue. Our problem is a recruitment issue. We are playing midfielders in who canā€™t get minutes in the midfield in the forward line because we donā€™t have any forward depth. There is zero pressure coming out of our forward line. Losing Snelling and Tippa hurts but there isnā€™t depth to replace them so Rutten is forced to play all sorts of ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  up there.

Heppell is also not a captain. Itā€™s not a criticism of him as a person but he isnā€™t a captain. Heā€™s a great clubman, but he doesnā€™t bring any players with him. We donā€™t have any players that bring the team with them at the moment. Thatā€™s a recruitment issue. Itā€™s pretty obvious that the recruitment team donā€™t value leadership or forwards as highly as they do endurance or flashy goal skills. Until we seriously sort out our recruiting, we will continue to be mediocre. Dodo has had his time, and has contributed enormously to the club, but weā€™ve got to look beyond him IMO. Weā€™ve got to start bringing in players that are prepared to work two ways.
