Next week we face a moment historically Essendon fans rarely in our history have had to endure which is winning a true wooden spoon.

With Richmond’s % taking another battering today, we are in the unenviable position now where a win against Port next week costs us the number 1 pick.

What is the Blitz mood on whether they want Essendon to beat Port next week or not? Can safely assume we wont be beating the Swans.

Who is on the side of win at all costs, get a winning culture and some positivity heading into the pre season going?

Thread title is a bit disingenuous as there isnt any clear number 1 pick standout necessarily yet but there are a host of advantages ONLY holding the number 1 pick gives you in trade and draft negotiations as well as having control of the draft at the top end.

I think we would be shooting ourselves in the foot big time after a torrid season losing all the advantages pick 1 gives us plus the potential impact on the AFL assistance package of not finishing last.

Whats your position?

It’s not a Harley Reid moment because there is no Harley Reid.

The impact is everything outside of pick 1, the compensation, the assistance package, the leverage against port to trade up.

It’s still in our best interests to lose but it’s not the same situation

Margin for error is low now. Assuming we lose by 100 tomorrow.

If we beat port narrowly we would need Richmond to get within 30 of Geelong. Not likely.

Exactly, % rockets past Richmond with any sort of win so barring a 30 goal loss tomorrow it isnt relevant anymore. Port are injury ravaged this season.

If Solomon is a true club man he’ll know what he has to do next week. His best mate Welsh will no doubt be having a chat with him this week.

It’s not so much thinking the club is capable of being better and more a case of accepting that the club is extremely capable of doing something really futile and counter productive.
