Exceptional movie. And for its time, the subject matter must have been pretty confronting (maybe not, but I feel we’ve moved forward since then)
This movie really flies under the radar.

The seen with Harvey Keitel, hopefully they had a stand in for that, was a bit confronting.

Harvey keitel creeps the hell out of me in that movie. The scene where he is talking to de niro telling him how much fun he will have with fosters character( all the while he keeps wiping his mouth) is beyond creepy
He dances with her later and the scene cuts away before anything happens. It’s pretty horrible. Hopefully it was a body double.
It was Jodie Foster’s older sister. I was listening to a podcast about the making of Taxi Driver last week

Saw The Odyssey last night.
Hard for me to get a feel for the movie itself because I found the audio wrecked my experience so I was too distracted to get immersed.
I haven’t had this happen to me at IMAX before but it was like a 12 year old had found an old graphic equaliser hooked up to the system and messed with a carefully calibrated system. Right from the trailers it felt overblown and out of balance.
A system that capable should do delicacy and imaging as well as bombast, but I felt it failed on those fronts. It contrasted sharply with my recent experience at the Nova watching Obsession where the audio was brilliant.
Disappointing as for me personally it is the audio that hooks me first in any movie. Will have to try again at some point on the home system.

I remember finding Network a good movie but a bit stagey and wordy. Peter FInch was a great actor and I’m glad he won the Oscar, but I think he was better in other movies (eg Sunday Bloody Sunday). Such a pity he died young.
The apartment scene in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore is really authentic. Ellen Burstyn was apparently very shaken up by Keitel’s performance. The film is also very good overall, not typical at all of Scorsese.
went to see Holy Days this morning. The cast was promising - Jackie Weaver, Judy Davis and Miriam Margolyes - who are three nuns that head off on a road trip to save their convent, accompanied by a young boy still struggling with the loss of his mother. It’s set in New Zealand, so there was some spectacular scenery. And there were some good bits. But there were also some lacklustre moments, some attempts at humour that fall flat, and it never really feels like the relationships are developed properly. It was a nice movie, but it could have been a great movie. One to watch again someday if it’s on TV I think

I went to see Spider-Man: Brand New Day this morning…go cheapy Tuesdays 
As a precursor, I watched Spider-Man: No Way Home last night.
I’ve really liked the emotional development of the character in these last two movies…I felt the first two were a bit light and fluffy whereas these two have dug a lot deeper into the character.
I enjoyed both…a lot.

Hacksaw Ridge 2016 (Mel Gibson)
This is the dumbest and worst ‘war movie’ of all time. It’s also a terrible movie.
1/10 just for the lols.

Wow…that would be the worst take on a movie for some time.
You do realise that it is based on the actual experiences of Desmond Doss…so it’s not a case of Hollywood making crap up to make America look good.
I rate it one of my favourite war movies.
