At the movies

Just back from Zootopia. A solid 8 / 10 from me. Very few kids in the audience, but the theatre was rocking from laughter most of the time. The kids will love, but the little ones might find a few scenes a bit scary. There were four of us and we all loved it. Usually l am not a great fan of the songs in such movies, but this one had a couple at either end of the movie, and they were more than passable.

Really looking forward to taking the kids to this one!

l reckon they will love it. The few kids in the theatre last night never made a peep during the scary bits, so l figure they weren’t too upsetting.

Am I the only one who thought Deadpool was average? Especially considering all the hype surrounding it and the build-up?

Don’t get me wrong, Ryan Reynolds is one of my favorite actors and someone who I find very watchable to say the least but I personally think you can watch the trailor and see all the funniest parts of the movie and not bother actually seeing the extra one and a half hours.

Yeah, it has raked in all kinds of money but if history shows us anything it is, if you give people a Marvel Superhero movie, they’ll spend ridiculous amounts of money to see it. Let alone pumping it’s tyres to the moon and back.

It has been impressive at the box office so far… But let’s not forget… So was Water World…

I was disappointed immensely. Many obvious plot holes and it didn’t meet the hype. But everyone loved it so I might be wrong(as was my girlfriend).

I thought Deadpool was just okay. Nothing special. It’s a Marvel movie but with swearing and violence. If that’s all it takes for people to get excited then I don’t know what to say…

Watched Bridge of Spies last night. That could’ve been titled “A series of things that happened”. Nothing ever felt really at stake. As by the numbers as it gets. Entertaining, but in no way special.

I got more laughs from Deadpool than every other Marvel film combined, and yeah, I like my action films to not be PG.
I’d be careful with the ‘easily entertained’ judginess, personally.

Yes - it is, essentially, a comedy. You watch it for a laugh. Not for heart-thumping, chair gripping action. The gore/violence is there for contrast and emotion-management. If you’re an adult and still go and see super-hero movies purely for action - well, what can I say.

I think it tried much harder to be funny than any marvel movie?

Maybe.
The day wasn’t saved through the power of dance, though.

Creed was pretty good.

Deadpool was passable but quite forgettable.

I did laugh a few times and enjoyed the feel of the movie but was never invested in the storyline in any way. Worth the entrance fee at least.

Just watched Eraserhead. Yeah.

Ok so I'm going to get flamed for this, but I think the Marvel movies suck. Boring, predictable, cgi heavy popcorn nonsense.

I have one exception - I thought that Guardians was a really great movie, and I didn’t hate Iron Man 1 until the last half hour. Other than that though, the rest can ead.

Flame away.

Iron Man 1 was probably the second movie I’ve watched with Gweneth Paltrow in it’s entirety.

Pity it didn’t end like the first one of hers I sat through. Witch was Se7en.

Is there anything, anywhere, that you like?

He likes Benny Hill.

Iron man 1 and 3 were awesome. 2 was pretty good until the last 30min then it just went downhill really quickly.

Saw Deadpool, was a hell of a lot funnier than i was expecting to be honest(the opening credits really cracked me up), some of the one liners were great eg what do they call cancer in spanish, you have something in your teeth . Action was better than i was expecting. Some of the breaking the 4th wall stuff was very clever. Ryan Reynolds is perfect for the part.

Remind me never to celebrate international womens day as well.

The biggest problem i have with the avenger movies and the stand alone films is nothing is ever at stake. And when they do kill off a character they are back alive by the end of the movie- takes away any emotion in the film.Without RDJ the whole avenger series would be screwed imo.

Iron Man 3 was awesome?

Iron man 3 was comical

To be fair, that’s entirely within genre. Nobody ever stays dead in comics.

In fact, the movies are if anything MORE prone to killing characters off for good. Bad guys at least. I think Loki’s the only bad guy who’s survived a film so far (does Winter Soldier count/). Red Skull is dead, Malekith is dead, all of Iron Man’s baddies are dead, Ultron is dead, Robert Redford and the Nazi in the old TV from Winter Soldier are dead. In comics they’d have all come back again and again and again…

IT’S A COMIC!!!

To be fair, none of MCU’s villains outside of Loki have been worth keeping alive.

They need to release Casanova Frankenstein.
