The best one I saw was driving back from Gunns Plains on the NW coast of Tassie in the late 80’s after doing a night mission to score some pot (on a work night lol), the whole sky was shimmering really hard to explain. We stopped the car and all got out and were just in awe, it was like massive shimmers of light were shooting through the sky, one guy was freaking out thinking a nuclear war had started it was really that surreal!

added to the amazing experience when you are in the middle of nowhere and no artificall lighting and at the bottom of the southern hemisphere one night I vividly remember.
It was a fizzer. I have seen aurora borealis in winter in iceland . I suspect the aurora in melbourne doesnt hold a candle to it.
