You’re being kind. The top marginal rate was dropped by Labor about a decade before Howard introduced the tax for not having private health insurance… it hasn’t been possible for ~40 years, even if you’re a billionaire who still pays their taxes.

My point was a long time ago it was possible to go over 50% if you earned “over a certain amount” (said certain amount being a LOT more than where the top tax rate kicks in).

An alternative, of course, is to go down the US path where you might pay less wage tax but then need to be employed by the right company or spend tens of thousands annually to get crap medical insurance. That’s an example of government running things cheaper and better than private enterprise.

I said if you’re successful I should have said top bracket or high end earner. Sloppy language on my behalf - clearly. I didn’t say everyone. You must have missed that qualifier. You have to add Medicare levy of 2% to get your total income tax payable - meaning top earners pay 47% tax at the top bracket.

If you earn $200000 a year you dont pay $100000 in tax, you pay $55k-ish plus levy
