Sussan Loser is expected to dump net zero to preserve her leadership, but her detractors believe a challenge in the new year is “almost unavoidable” even if she settles the messy climate debate.
Top spy Mike Burgess giving a sobering speech at the Lowy Institute on fractured community cohesion and its security threats amongst other topics. I’m sure it will be news on the media networks tomorrow.
Never tried to fell the Avenue of Honour at all. Ironically that was the RSL President at the time who wanted the tree trunks carved into statues of Aussie War Heroes, imagine the Ben Roberts-Smith carving !
And actually I was one of the blokes who supported the cloning of the existing trees so the ones that fell over could be replaced. Good program, just so expensive.
I did push moving of 4 trees so we could get a roundabout and truck by pass, but Premier Ted stopped that.
I thought you wanted to fell 8 of the Avenue of Honour trees to facilitate the proposed Woolpack Road extension… Ah well, I suppose it’s ancient history now, but maybe our local MLA, Michaela Settles, could get it moving again. She’s a funny one: all her literature is done in red, but the words Labor and ALP don’t appear anywhere on it.
Original plan was 12 trees, final plan was 4 trees out of 187. These trees were being effectively moved as they were being replaced and not lost. There was also a new Avenue named Memorial Mile that went from existing Woolpack Road extension to Western Freeway of over 300 new trees. It was not a happy time to be on Council. It was in 2011, and the whole truck bypass project was fully funded by Feds at a cost of $32 million. New plans which are much more grandeur are costed at $750 million and will never happen.
Michaela is our State MP as well, but I have not seen any of her literature but nothing would surprise me. Her entire life revolves around getting re-elected, though she has been a better MP than I thought initially.
Ted was obviously intelligent but not suited to be a Politician.i heard him speak many times and he was just so boring. The only good time was when he opened a new crushed rock plant in our Shire. (Yep, crushed rock!!). He spoke about how important crushed rock was for building roads, homes etc, but then he digressed into architecture, which was his true profession and passion. He was actually very interesting talking about how he went about designing homes.
if he does geez he has had a busy schedule. A a week or so ago in Washington to meet trump. Then off to Malaysia for ASEAN, back to Canberra for question time then across the pacific again.
Nope, she was born Diana Knox and not part of the Myer dynasty. Her breed came from Western Victoria and were all wealthy Pastoral people of Scottish descent.
The politicians were in her side of the family. The arrogance snobs were Teddy’s father’s side who married into the Myer clan.
As the story goes, Ted’s mums family were strict teetotallers and Ted never drank the evil liquor. Any Government meeting at the time were strictly grog free. No wonder he was so boring. You can see blokes like Peter Walsh and Hugh Delahunty pining for a brew.
