More like an ancient DLP
Well this I didnât know. I donât like his views on those things. But I think heâs done a decent job as trade minister. Those lobsters on their way back to Bejing in time for Chinese new year !
Wasnât aware. Thought these dinosaurs were a thing of the past.
He keeps a low profile, obviously for good reason.
He is a warrior, and maybe out of notice because he comes from the backwoods of Murray Bridge.
Snip from Wiki, shows his pedigree
Farrell was born on 6 June 1954 in Murray Bridge, South Australia.[1] He is the son of Mary Heptinstall and Edward William Farrell.[2] His father was a member of the Democratic Labor Party (DLP) and stood for federal parliament unsuccessfully on six occasions, five times for the seat of Boothby and once for the Senate.[2][3]
During his childhood, Farrell lived for periods in Crafers, Forestville, Panorama, and Daw Park. He began his schooling at St Thereseâs School and completed his secondary education at Blackfriars Priory School. He subsequently completed the degree of Bachelor of Lawsat the University of Adelaide. He worked for six years in his uncleâs kiosk at Cleland Wildlife Park,[2] and also worked as a mail sorter, council worker and waiter for periods.[1]
Union career
Farrell joined the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA) as an industrial officer in 1976. He was promoted to assistant secretary in 1980 and became state secretary in 1993, serving until his election to the Senate.[1]
The SDA connection explains it. He must feel a bit out of place in the modern ALP.
Also refused to distance himself from his kiddy â â â â buddy and is just a religious nut job snake who seems to always slither into a position of power. After the Wong incident I was hoping he was gone for good but he weaseled his way back into favour again.
I donât care which side of politics you sit on, I have little time for the religious clowns who preach their hatred against gays, abortion etc
Not a doctor*.
But I donât feel like the RBA know what the hell theyâre doing.
Traffic today on the way to ChaddyâŚon the third last day off before Christmas, wasâŚminimal.
Weâre raising interest rates to stop unemployment, yeah?
Bad Christmas periodâŚbecause people donât have money to spendâŚhowâs that going to go for employment, going forward?
As Iâve said, I donât have many conspiracy theories, but that the RBA are Fark the plebs, as long as the top end get theirs, thatâs one.
Na itâs to increase unemployment. They want it to raise from 3.5% to 4.5%.
But yeah to prevent a recession, which sounds kinda Fâd. Letâs have a small recession to stop a big one.
I am still waiting for it.
Yeah âŚâŚa few weeks ago it was crazy busy at Chaddy âŚ.went out yesterday with Mrs Lawry âŚâŚnobody lined up outside of the luxury stores - first time Iâve ever seen that. Saturday afternoon 2 weeks before Christmas was very very quiet
Is there a better word to distinguish b/w the old guard of the Farrell ilk and most current MPs?
IIRC, the SDA screwed Coles workers over because they got kickbacks from approving a dodgy EBA, right?
Something like that. Maybe it was beyond just Coles, and maybe it was some other issue, but I do recall them getting called out because they wanted to line pockets rather than protect workers best interests.
Yes, I can recall something along that line. Can also recall they engineered a preference deal that elected a Family First senator rather than another progressive in the mid 2000âs. Steve Fielding I think his name was.
If they wanted a downturn, theyâve got it.
Way less people.
And I canât believe theyâre spending as much.
So.
Mission accomplished.
Now what?
Now prices allegedly start dropping and suddenly inflation allegedly drops and cost of living allegedly eases and interest rates allegedly remain the same before they start going back down again. Allegedly.
Nope in Victoria they call themselves Centre Unity.
I have others names for them.
Does it involve removing six letters?
Online shopping is killing it.
We are making an absolute killing this year and shattering all records. Money for jam and itâs only going to continue to grow.
Iâve done all my Christmas shopping and havenât set foot in a store this year
Youâve nailed it! A lot of clothing and apparel is already on sale (retailers are desperate) so prices on those items are dropping (discretionary goods). However transport/fuel costs are likely to remain high so some of the B2B costs wonât ease - meaning groceries and household (non discretionary) products may continue to be high. Sorry @wimmera1 Coles and Woolies still going to be creaming it.
IMO - the RBA will also keep interest rates higher even if inflation starts to fall. They will want to keep the pressure on. However, we could see two 0.25% rate decreases back end of next year but I wouldnât be betting on a >1% decrease over that period unless growth really slows (unlikely given immigration)
