My grandparents in Malta were able to rent long term (government housing) and then given the opportunity to buy it outright. They said the payment scheme was reasonable and they felt secure that they had a roof over their heads (even when money was very tight).

Oh. I forgot to mention that if a house were left empty for twelve months or more there would be a charge to pay - or the house might even be declared forfeit.

They do rent control in the world HQ of capitalism and otherwise unrestrained profit taking. If itās good enough for US capitalists, why canāt it happen here?
