There is no daylight in trade and security according to the US. It is pushing us , as a defence partner in containing China, to decouple from trading with China. At the same time as it puts tariffs on our exports and applying more non tariff barriers against us. Our access can change at a whim.
Meanwhile, Marles wants to keep our defence interests distinct from our trade interests, with an untrustworthy ally in both trade and security.
The US has joined the dots while Marles pretends they arenât.

They should just call it âSRL Levy #1. Then they can add new levyâs down the track and just update the number. A catch all for future rail builds if you like.

Who says Hobart is the biggest market ? There are more people in the whole Launceston area than in the Hobart area. Iâd like to see the stadium built in Lonny - but the Hobartians wonât have that, so Ross or Campbell Town would be a compromise.
And the footballers wouldnât have to live in Campbell Town or Ross. They could easily live in Hobart or Lonny.
Hobart to Ross is a 1.5hr drive. Add 13 minutes for Campbell Town.
Launceston to Ross takes 1hr 9mins.
These wimps in their big flash cars couldnât handle the drive ? Hell, players living in Melbourne often have longer drives to get to their club.
In case you havenât noticed, neither Melbourne nor Castlemaine is in Tasmania. Anyway neither of those locations interests me. Iâm now in Ballaarat.
When I spoke to a player manager about this last year he said that there is a proposal for some players to live and train in Melbourne and be FIFO for Tasmanian home games. Apparently plenty of players not too keen to move down there or if they do they want a very large bonus paid

Why? Itâs hardly the most expensive place to live and the costs of flying arenât that drastic. Do they get a large bonus when they come from one state and get drafted to another for any other state?

A repeat of Sydney when it started and the compensation money for the players, including the FIFOs.
Donât know why as Iâd happily live there but internally the AFL are massively concerned that talent wonât head there initially and if they donât perform from the get go they are worried about a similar trend to the Gold Coast and GWS where clubs will just pick the eyes out the talent every year and it just becomes a never ending loop.
If they canât get 18yo kids to stay in the GC then good luck to getting them to stay in Tassie.
He wouldnât give me a name but the agent said he had heard a very good player saying that he wouldnât go to Tassie for $2m a year and would take significantly less to stay in Melbourne

Why would any player want to go to Tassie unless there from there originally or have massive financial incentives?
Itâs a start up team, in a city with not a heck of a lot that a young 18/19 year old would want.
Iâm still not convinced this team will ever come to fruition.

Not really. That was ~40 players being told out of nowhere to move (and they would have mostly been locals per whatever South Melbourneâs zone was).
Itâs only poached/traded players in that situation for Tassie, and theyâve very deliberately made that decision.
A club divided must fall.

AUKUS at risk under Labor: Dutton
âPeter Dutton says the future of AUKUS is uncertain under the current government, claiming Labor âalways take money out of defenceâ.
That in itself is a compelling reason to vote ALP.

âŚand given we just had a budget where Labor moved future years expenditure into the next year (i.e. increased the spend), Dutton is in the realm of alternative facts.
He may as well claim âEssendon will always win flags under a coalition governmentâ. Just as much basis in fact (3 of last 4 were under ALP governments!)
