Didn’t watch either launch. It’s interesting the Liberals had Morrison and Abbott at their launch. They’d be two of the least popular pollies and ex-PMs around. I hope that that’s an omen for a poor showing for them in 2025!
More polls
Morgan has it 54.5 to Labor
Resolve has it 53.5 to Labor
Iys getting ugly for the liberals.
Hearing that Wannon is pretty much 50/50
Around Port Fairy, there are a squillion Alex Dyson posters around houses, whereas Dan Tehan posters are on lots of highway fences, not privately owned. I think I’ve seen about 5 Tehan ones to about 50 Dyson.
And there’s an absolute poultice of anti-Dyson clips on Youtube ads.
So, on the surface, the LNP are really worried about losing a seat that’s been theirs for over 75 years.
Not ugly enough. They deserve uglier.
I think the most telling thing from polls at the moment is how on the nose the two major parties are.
Combined primary is looking in the 65-67% range. There was a school of thought that 2022 may have been the outlier and a bunch of LNP voted for another party because of Morrison, but it appears it will be a sustained shift.
Have to see what comes from the election, but we might be entering an era of frequent minority Governments in Australia.
Of interest is the increase in primary for PHON. This may represent the start of a far-right shift which has been seen globally, but probably needs another political cycle to be fully determined. A proportion of that increase might be due to the decline of UAP (which polled ~4% last election and ToP will not replicate that) but the declining LNP primary in polls and stable ALP suggests it might actually be drawing people from a major party.
Yep, went for a drive to Dunkeld a few weeks ago and was very surprised how many Alex Dyson posters are around.
It sounds like he’s been doing his campaigning the old fashioned way, through town hall meetings and attending community events.
I still think it unlikely (not impossible) that Dyson gets over Tehan. Would be great if he did, more independents would make me happy.
I think what did spook the LNP was the YouGov MRP which suggested Tehan would lose the seat. I don’t particularly trust the seat level projections from that modelling, but there is now a bit to suggest the major parties might put some weight onto them.
Couldn’t they revive Howard from the cryo chamber?
House prices are what they are in every country because this is what home buyers are prepared to pay. Until buyers refuse to pay these prices then the cycle will continue. I doubt Government intervention can achieve much.
Yeah cos you have to refuse to pay for a roof over your head.
No. We encourage speculation on houses.
So even people like John are homeless.
■■■■ Banks
■■■■ the tax system
■■■■ the politicians.
I know who pays their bills and it’s not the voter.
Dutton’s son speaks up to expose the depth of the housing crisis. It’s personal, he can’t afford to buy his own home.
He’s a 20yo apprentice!
Surely daddy can give him a few of the ones he’s currently renting out to the lowly scum.
Imagine instead of Agents renting a 3 bedroom apartment to 12 international students with bunk beds for 1200 a week.
They have to rent that 3 bedroom flat to a family of 4 for 600 a week.
Why? Because the international students are in student accomodation.
I see it everywhere in inner city Sydney. I’d love to know stats here and the numbers in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane etc
Or perhaps Airbnb - same deal. What if instead hotels/resorts/ had high occupancy rates?
Well Chalmers absolutely destroyed Angus Taylor on 7.30.
He better tea up a Sky News chat.
At least his old man bought him and his brother their look-alike Lib uniforms for the campaign launch.
Are you sure? What about these messages:
“Fantastic work, Angus! Well done Angus”
Imagine wheeling out your own entitled as ■■■■ son for a sound bite about the housing market. Jesus Christ. Dutton has nothing to offer… absolutely nothing.
Which is another reason why “Labor” should be looking after renters !
Entitled twit. Finish your apprenticeship, get a job and then worry about purchasing a house
I have very minimal knowledge about Australian fiscal policy and I reckon I could comfortably account for Angus Taylor in any debate on the topic.
Even in the Treasurers debate on Sky last week the mediator called Angus Taylor out for being lazy when it comes to being across his portfolio.
