Australian Politics -- hold my slabs

And in Australia ?

Australia has a far stronger middle class and a much higher average wage than the USA.

People resort to violence when they can’t feed and house their families. Australia doesn’t have that issue and is unlikely to erode things in the foreseeable future.

The USA has form in neglecting its people. All it will take is a disputed election followed by job losses, food insecurity and loss of housing. They are a wealthy nation, but there’s massive disadvantaged areas that won’t take much to set them off.

Ehrm…

I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s always worth noting. Historically, fascist dictatorships have formed through a middle-class overreaction to “threats” from the left. Fascism doesn’t take root in the poor, it takes root in the middle-class and petty bourgeoisie who are afraid of losing what they have to a leftist movement.

Mo left no right

I’m not referring to the currency.

Cashless as in electronic payment only.

Legal tender, same thing. The vic gov can’t do it, they especially can’t do it just for Crown, and even if they did do it, it would just end up in a stupidly long and expensive court battle that would cost the taxpayer millions

Of course not. You can’t see the wind if it’s dark.

Well no, not really.

Our toll roads are now cashless, public transport etc. through covid many businesses switched to electronic payment only as well to reduce cash handling.

The casino accepts cash and then cashes back into accounts(at least the last time I visited, has been a couple of years).

It’s pretty simple, they stop accepting cash money.

What that simply means is money before it is gambled would have to be deposited into Australian bank accounts.

And it has nothing to do with the federal government in terms of regulation. Gaming is state based.

Of course businesses can mandate whatever method they want, my point is the state government can’t force them to do it either way. I don’t know why Crown would voluntarily refuse cash payments, outside of undertakings - but they’re also not losing their license anyway.

Seems they are doing it anyway which is probably why they kept their licence

RC recommended limiting cash transactions to $1k and stricter ID.
Banks have been required to report transfers of $10k for some time - Some have been fined on that account.

It’s so funny.

I can’t see if this has been discussed yet across the 3 political threads?

This proposal is a disgrace in my view, being pushed through quickly as usual and will be used to bypass all types of checks and measures by the government… there is no such thing as an independent committee. get real.

Daniel Andrews could be given extra powers to declare pandemics and enforce emergency laws | Sky News Australia

The current controversial state of emergency framework could be scrapped, Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton could lose his ability to make orders and give the Premier power to extend the pandemic in three months blocks if deemed necessary.

Premier Daniel Andrews could be given more power to declare pandemics and enforce emergency laws under legislation set to replace Victoria’s current state of emergency framework.

The Public Health and Wellbeing (Pandemic Management) Bill, set to be introduced in the lower house when parliament resumes on Tuesday, would allow Mr Andrews to make a pandemic declaration after discussing with the Chief Health Officer and extend it “three months at a time, with no outer limit on the total duration of declaration”.

oh no! we’ll have the same laws as nsw!

Someone needs to have the power to activate emergency orders. The Liberals were complaining that Sutton had too much power when he held that authority. Now there’s complaints that the Premier has too much power if he holds it.

I hear the complaints, but no alternative proposal on who is to be entrusted with emergency powers.

And I’m sure there’s a big movement to strip him of that power.

Did you miss the part that it is the same as NSW and NZ, that it provides greater checks and balances, and all health orders have to be made public to justify the actions?

Doubt it, like Murdock media and the LNP you just focused on the bits that seemed scary.
