Australian Politics, Mark II

So what laws need changing regarding religious freedom?

I should be free not to serve people whose life choices, which religion most certainly is, I donā€™t agree with.

Oh wait, no I shouldnā€™t.
That would be a horrible thing.

Morrison is more Abbott than he is Turnbull.

Iā€™ve been wanting to use the phrase ā€œdead cat bounceā€ in a contextually and grammatically correct sense for quite some time now. Iā€™m not compleeeeetely sure this is the most apt time Iā€™ll ever see, but thereā€™s enough confidence to just go for it anyway.

This result is just an dead cat bounce.

Haha, ā€¦I wouldnā€™t trust that poll number as far as I could throw it.

Murdoch funny buggers again.

Australian politics is vomit.

Both parties are bought, we get self serving, mediocre men and women at every turn.

And corruption is everywhere, its just accepted, ignored or justified.

I hate it.

The sooner we have our Trump moment the better. Turn the place upside down and start again.

That is just not true Vanders. It is perhaps what the Media want you to believe, but it is not true.

There is no corruption; some very poor decisions but illegality is rare and found out and prosecuted were it happens. Even Dutton and Au-PairGate, as Minister he had the legal right to do what he did, and the Media have just blown it up.

And who has ā€œboughtā€, Labor and Liberals. Many groups influence and lobby, but bought ?

MPā€™s are a reflection of society, some good, some not-so-great, others are exceptional. I would strongly argue that they all should be left to get on with their jobs. It makes no difference who is PM.

Liberal primary vote of 34.

That hasnā€™t happened very often in my lifetime.

I think itā€™s probably an accurate result re Morrison at least.

New leaders who nobodyā€™s heard of generally get a bit of a honeymoon period in the polls, plus morrisonā€™s been working hard to impress the hard right christianist lib party base to hopefully head off another spill.

Wonā€™t matter at the election unless something drastically changes though. Energy policy (or the lack thereof) ainā€™t going away.

Charity Begins At Home Or We Need To Talk About Harriet

Rossleigh

School Counsellorā€™s Office. Mr and Mrs White enter.

Counsellor: Ah, thanks for coming in.

Mr White: Weā€™re really glad you called.

Mrs White: Weā€™ve been really worried about Harriet.

Counsellor: I understand, but really, itā€™s nothing to worry about.

Mr. White: Yes, but some of the things sheā€™s been doing. She keeps taking her younger brotherā€™s toys and insisting that he shouldnā€™t have them until heā€™s earned them. I mean, I do appreciate a work ethic, butā€¦

Mrs White: But he is only two. And then there was what she said when she saw that the government was helping farmers with the drought.

Mr White: Yes, she insisted that we shouldnā€™t be giving charity to people who didnā€™t come from the same house as we did. I said that they were in need and she just said that they didnā€™t have the same surname so why should we help them. And she locked one of her friends in the cupboard because she didnā€™t come in the right door.

Mrs White: Weā€™ve been asking her for the key for months now, but she insists that the friend has to stay in the cupboard so none of her other friends come in by the wrong door.

Counsellor: So she does have friends?

Mr White: Well, not so many since she had her thirteenth birthday and told them that they had to make a large donation to sit at the table with her.

Counsellor: Yes, well, I can see how this may seem like a real worry to you. However, Iā€™m just throwing this out there, but have you ever considered that she might beā€¦

Mr White: Go on!

Counsellor: A Liberal!

Mrs White: No, she canā€™t be. I mean what sort ofā€¦

Mr White: Not our daughter surely. I mean, she canā€™t be. Sheā€™s female.

Counsellor: Now I know that you may need some time to adjust to the idea but believe it or not, there are female Liberals. Itā€™s just that theyā€™re much more likely to be hidden away than the type you see in the media, but female Liberals are more common than you might think.

Mrs White: But what makes you think that sheā€™s a Liberal?

Counsellor: Well, one of her teachers noticed that she kept blaming everyone else whenever she made a mistake. By itself that wouldnā€™t be unusual but then we noticed her complete lack of empathy and her inability to make a consistent argument for anything. For example, when she was doing group activities, sheā€™d insist that sheā€™d done all the work and then when the marks were in, sheā€™d loudly declare that this shouldnā€™t go on her report because the other students had done it. Classic Liberal behaviour.

Mr White: Is itā€¦ Is it something to do with the way we raised her?

Counsellor: Now, you mustnā€™t blame yourselves. Sometimes these things just happen and because we live in a tolerant society sheā€™ll be able to lead a relatively normal life. Of course, sheā€™ll never be able to make a meaningful commitment or trust any of her friends, but apart from that, sheā€™ll be able to function just like a normal person.

Mrs White: Is there anything we should be doing? Like is there any treatment or help available.

Counsellor: I think the main thing is just continuing to be supportive and remembering when attempts to install herself as head of the household, that itā€™s the condition and nothing that you should blame her for.

Mr White: So thereā€™s no cure orā€¦

Counsellor: Well, there are people trying a radical new therapy. Apparently if you give Liberals lots and lots of money and keep telling that theyā€™re the adults, they behave politely and only lash out at things like renewable energy or unemployed people.

Mr White: How much money?

Counsellor: All of it, but I only mentioned that to say that people are trying to help. I donā€™t know if thereā€™s any scientific validity behind the therapy.

Mrs White: But the lack of science wouldnā€™t matter, would it? I mean, if sheā€™s really a Liberalā€¦

Counsellor: The main thing is not to over-react. As unbelievable as it may seem, there are lots of Liberals out there and if you can just steer clear of certain topics, you might never even be aware that theyā€™re any different from you or me.

Mr White: Is there some sort of support group? Malcolm Fraser inspired a lot of people by showing that you could make an almost complete recovery from being a Liberal.

Counsellor: Thatā€™s what I mean. You shouldnā€™t talk about recovery. You should just respect her choices.

Mrs White: So it is a choice thing?

Counsellor: Look, Iā€™m not an expert. We do have someone at the school whoā€™s very good at understanding they way Liberals think and heā€™ll be able to give you some strategies for getting Liberals to do what you want.

Mr White: Whoā€™s that?

Counsellor: The school chaplain.

SCoalMo preferred PM. Now, I know I donā€™t have a lot of faith in the cognitive faculties of the average voter in this country but surely people canā€™t be that impressed by baseball caps.

Actually, the LNPā€™s primary. Would be genuinely interested in what the Liberal primary would be on its own since we all know the Nats wouldnā€™t have lost a single voter through all of this.

Live export ban passed second reading in the senate. Come on Barnaby, get in front of a camera and start griping about it.

Could just be that people remember how bad Shorten would be.

Worse than a Pentecostal, kid jailing, deficit blowing, coal shill as PM? Must be Satan then.
