The Fed election is a foregone conclusion, will be a walk in the park for Labor.
Never underestimate the power of the MSM, especially the Murdoch media, in confecting some âcrisisâ that will divert votes. Just look at the propaganda they continually pump out from the Australian all the way down.
Labor lost in NSW because of the âAsian PhDs taking jobsâ comment made months ago but that was only reported and blown up in the last few days by MSM. Just when it would do the most damage.
Although Labor held on to the marginal seat of Strathfield, which has the second highest concentration of voters of Chinese origin.
Obeid still casts a long shadow in NSW.
And it had been suggested that the Turnbull deposing effect may not have been as strong across the board in NSW.
Essington couldnât even lose this one
Itâs not the Labor party Iâm worried about, itâs the people who vote.
There are people in this country that would still vote for a party who set their house on fire so long as they are representing their ideology
Libs win NSW. Latham won a seat
Has he defected yet?
What about Leyonjholm?
Full composition of Upper House could take a few weeks.
It shouldnât surprise and yet it does. The wind in the sails for the federal LNP is going to reek. The eternal snoozers will look to back winners and the sham will continue. Not looking forward to May as much as I was. Hopefully thereâs at least a few seats that switch then. At worst we will see Morrison go straight for the same blueprint. Theyâll roll out Howard and all the promises on energy and the rest will get dropped like a sack of spuds if they pull it off.
Is NSW secretly worse than QLD?
Itâs not a secret.
QLD has a good Labor Government and the Qld Labor Party works hard and is well organised.
NSW Labor Party is still run by the Right Wing that condoned Obeid and the other crooks, so while Latham getting a seat makes you wonder, the NSW voter is not forgiving at all.
How about instead of DNA testing Indigenous people, we DNA test One Nation Party members for being racist inbred rednecks.
Also, the LNP in NSW did not appear to run a dogwhistling campaign on divisive issues such as refugees, race, law and order, renewables and coal - steered clear of issues being run at the Federal level and the Nats in NSW took a different position from the Queensland Nats. Some of the adverse decisions of the current Government - demolition of the Allianz stadium and the light rail stuff up - may have been been blown out of proportion and limited to a few seats in inner Sydney. Climate change position is moderate.
The Nats were more on the nose for neglect of the rural constituency - connected to the drought, water and regional transport - than the Liberals and it is difficult for Labor to capture rural seats against the likes of the Shooters ( who appear to be less bogan than in Victoria ) and independents with a high profile in individual electorates.
Queensland is different, with a high proportion of voters outside of Brisbane and with a more diverse mix of workers and farmers in the coastal regions. The so-called sugar seats are traditional swinging seats.
Yep, good result for the SFF, but itâs essentially siphoning off Nats votes. Iâm not overly familiar with NSW political positioning, but the National Party overall are really struggling to have any influence over their Coalition âpartnersâ and hence traditional Nat voters get very little value from their party. Doubly so as Australia continues to drift further towards cosmopolitan cities and rural areas flag.
Iâd love to see the Nationals break from the Coalition and put themselves in a position to leverage both bigger parties. Theyâd maybe get some sort of identity back. At the moment, theyâre fading.
Maybe theyâd lose some of that baggage and actually refocused themselves if they rebranded back to the country party.
Edit: I think a lot of highish population regional centres still identify as country.
Why? Isnât that a prequalification?
When they rebranded to the Nats , got the mining money and ran the line that agricultural natural resources issues could have something in common with mineral natural resources, it was said â You can take the country out of the party, but you canât take the party out of the country.
There are conflicts between farmers and miners on climate change and on fracking ( as in the shut the gate movement). In Queensland the Libs were the poor relations of the Country party, particularly in the Joh area. They are now amalgamated as the LNP in that State. In NSW there were some sort of deals, such as putting a Nat higher on the Coalition Senate Ticket. Thereâs still the rule that they do not run candidates against a sitting member.
Ignoring the vital water ways of the Country, and allowing mining companies and multinational cotton farming to pollutewater ways and store valuable irrigationâŚ
Probably hurt their vote most of all.
But also the response from the Nationals, from the last few months of not visiting the townships that have no access to clean drinking water⌠then blaming the drought for the lack of water coming through the riverways.
The priorities have gone out the window with the Liberal Party Corruption.
