The Essendon football club has ramped up its push to secure a licence for a basketball team in the NBL.

And the Bombers want Australian great Andrew Bogut to be their franchise player.

Sportsday newsbreaker Mitch Cleary delivered the news on Wednesday.

He said Bogut, an Essendon supporter, was currently on the outer in the NBA and looked a viable option.

“He’s the man they’ll target,” he said.

“This story is red hot.”

I’d be surprised, but nothing would surprise me these days with footy clubs.
I would watch the NBL more often if there was a team associated with us.

Wasn’t this a joke story on Twitter months ago?

Is there still an NBL?

I can understand the idea at growing the brand. But it’s time to slow down and build the audiences in our pro-gaming & Women side before entering into another licence.

There goes the salary cap.

The guy must be on 1,000,000 a week.

How about an Atlanta Hawks style jersey ?

those triangles too equilateral, need more isosceles action

Maybe we’ll finally win a final

I still wouldn’t un-mute the NBL thread.

Is Leeroy Loggins busy?

Interesting if true. I’m not a big fan of basketball but if we had a team imagine how big the crowds would be. All the big soccer clubs in Europe have teams in the Euro league. Real Madrid, Barcelona etc

Could be a winner

I’m more interested in netball than NBL.
Or NBA for that matter.

Surely we know nothing about baseball?

Lol.

Exum might be a chance to come home with Donavon Mitchell killing it running point at the Jazz. He’d probably waive his salary for a Sherrin signed by Raz or Joey

If it makes us money I have no issues at all with it

Since when is an NBL side a thing that MAKES money?

I’m very far from an expert, but I thought they were all run on spare change and charity, and were in constant danger of going broke.

It’s a strategy that got the dogs a flag, I guess.
