Beginner question - ELI5 our draft prospects?

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the right place, so excuse me if not....

I am just hoping someone can explain to me how are our draft prospects looking, and particularly the effect of the two year penalty. Have we already had one of those years out of the way now (and how did we do?)

I was discussing with a friend and told him Hirdy was number 79 in the year we got him. But he thought it was different now, people are much better across the draft picks, and also with free agency being an issue.

I guess overall I am just wondering how severe a setback things are especially with a good team coming together into contention, and Hirdy being back next year.

Thank you if you can shed any light on this for me!

And Patrick Ambrose

Our draft penalties won’t mean too much this year given we will win the premiership.

so whats the deal this year? we get first pick after 2nd round?

First pick after r1. Which is 19 isn't it?

First pick after r1. Which is 19 isn't it?

Basically - depending on if there are any free agent compensation picks, or other compo picks dealt out.

Well, it would be 18, because there's only 17 teams in the first round. But Gold Coast activated one of the Ablett picks they got from Geelong, which pushes it out to 19. GWS' end of first round compensation pick comes after ours. The only free agent who would attract first bracket compensation is Frawley and no team's been bad enough to possibly warrant a first round priorty pick, so the latest we'll have is pick 20.
