Very very late to this thread, but the genre tropes are just awful. So many of the covers in this thread are just “smash together as many of the elements of a trip as you can fit into one cover and leave it to the audience to work out what it all means”.
That sounds a bit like a description of Sgt. Pepper’s.
No, not at all, that has one central idea, and isn’t a trope
The ones I’m talking about are the ones that have a few skulls, a motorbike, a graveyard, and then a few more skulls because you can never have too many skulls, a scantily clad woman wielding a sword, and then a few more skulls … and another motorbike
How do you feel about a cover featuring a motorbike, a graveyard and a bat on a tombstone?
Sounds focused (Meatloaf I presume?)
The issue is the sheer number who’s only contribution to the art form is to add a few more dead bodies to the stereotype!
Yes…one of the greatest album covers of all time!
The ‘Eating lamb’ is much worse.
Including this one more for the album title than the cover, one of the all-time great album titles, Baron Von Tollbooth & The Chrome Nun.

Dead Kennedys - Frankenchrist

And when one of the best front covers in Aus becomes one of the worst in the US Version
US Version , that hand looks crap
Yep , a subtle tip of the hat to your influences
Don’tcha gettit? It’s Ice…next to a House
